Heya all, I plugged my Tos Link optical adaptor (3.5mm jack - Optical) into my notebook today and hooked it up to the sound system, When I plug the jack in Realtek pops up with a little note saying "Plug detected" but refuses to play through the optical, It just keeps playing through the inbuilt speakers, Ive tried the newer drivers and the asus drivers and I have the same problem. The red light does glow at the end of the optical cable so it is throughputting but there is no music and the computer ignores it. Any ideas?

Make sure that the default playback device is "Speakers" and not HDMI. You can do this from Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Manage Audio Devices

if you use normal headphone in the PC do the speakers still sound? and have you actually enabled SPDIF (aka digital) in your control panel under realtek, or soundman.... then you'll see the red light come from the socket when the cable is plugged in.

Yes the red light comes on, And yes if I plug in speakers the internal speakers disable.
