Well yesterday I had my G50 plugged into my school's sound system in the auditorium. Everything worked fine.
Today, at home, I went to play music from the built in speakers and I hear nothing. When i look at the Realtek HD Audio manager, its telling me that I have an audio output device connected, when i do not.
I tried plugging in external speakers, and sound works. Unplug the speakers, silence.
I tried reinstalling the sound drivers, but that didnt change anything.
Does anyone have and ideas on how to solve this?

In the world of Macs, there's a little switch inside the plug that sometimes get stuck. Some people find it helps plugging and unplugging a couple of times, whereas other have used a match-stick to loosen the switch – if you choose to try the latter, make sure it doesn't break inside.
If it's software/OS, I really don't know -
ya right now i rly am starting to think something is stuck, because when i plug into to mic port, the little message comes up saying "device plugged in" but for the speaker port, nothing comes up..
before i start shoving things in there though? any other thoughts from anyone? -
Wow I thought it knew when a device was plugged into the Headphone / Mic jack because it was detecting a change in resistance/impedance or something ... Didn't know it was as low-tech as a switch inside the jack.

umm so any sugestions? Or should i poke around in the port?
and with wat? -
Haha.. I had the same thought before too...

Try the plugging-unplugging with your normal minijack - jiggle it a bit.
If that doesn't do it, use a match stick - push in, pull out, test. If not working, push in, jiggle a bit, perhaps with a bit of twisting (as on revolving the match) to "massage" the switch and loosen the dirt causing the switch to get stuck. -
what do u mean a match stick?
IF i use the side that lgihts up, wont it start breaking up (releasing dirt in the port)?

lol im a bit worried, b/c i dont want to make anything worse right?
So 1) dont use force
2) wiggle around gently
3) do it, check windows, and so on
right? -
1) don't use force
2) push in, pull out, no wiggle
3) test with a real plug
4) push match in, wiggle gently
5) check again with a real plug.
If it's still not working:
6) Shut down your computer
7) Use evaporating contact spray
8) let evaporate.
9) test the thing with a real plug
10) if not working, do 1-5 again.
11) if STILL not working, something else is propably up. Could be hardware, could be software. -
whats evaporating contact spray? Lmao!

-
ahhh.... and if nothing works
I guess ill have to RMA =( -
-
AHH its not working T_T
Still shows a divice plugged into the port -
tap that side of the computer on sumthing hard...
-
LOL! XD
Ok plan B - Anyone know how to disable the audio jacks? -
Found a website with numerous things you can try (read the comments):
http://www.fixya.com/support/t115000-speakers_not_working_but_cables_all -
nope, none of it has worked
anyone know how to disable the audio jacks altogether? -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
I wouldn't poke around the port. If you break it then you have no sound at all and will have to return it. Use earphones when mobile and your hi-fi when at home for the moment.
Earlier you mentioned re-installing drivers. Did your try to uninstall and re-install Realtek itself? -
yes i did, but even after install it shows a device plugged into the sound out jack
This is rly bugging me, especially since its a gaming laptop. It shouldnt screw up like this after plugging in external speakers!! -
I posted this in another thread, the ASUS answer will probably be a MB replacement, i recomend you send your Note to support, i don't hve this option (a.k.a Brazil ), so here is how to disable the jack ports:
But before... Warning: I can't measure the effects of this change, as far as i know it will override ALL jack ports. I'm still trying to find the value that matches only with Line-Out port. And, for now, you need to reboot the PC to make it work. So, if you want to try this it will be at your own risk.
Ok, assuming you are using Realtek HD Audio Driver, in regedit, go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
in there are a enumerated sequence of sub-keys in my case, from 0000 to 0007.
Search for the one that has a subkey named "Settings". This key has a value named "ForceDisableJD" with a value set (probably) to "00", double click it and change to "FF"
Reboot your computer.
For me it worked fine. -
ive pretty much narrowed it down to hardware.....
I think im gonna have to send it in...
Anyone want to explain how I would go about doing this? Ive never had to deal with warranty on computers before
