Hey guys, I plan to get an Asus G1s pretty soon, but I hear speaker quality is pretty poor. Although I'll be using headphones most of the time, I would probably like it more if the speakers were actually a bit better. Does anyone know if the Asus G2s has better speaker quality than the G1? Thanks.

Most laptop speakers a way below that of regular speakers because of the limit of the size of the drivers that manufacturers can use. Also, I doubt that the Santa Rosa refreshes have any better speakers.

Yea, not just the G1/G2, all notebook speakers are pretty crappy, like the generic 2 speakers you get for free when buying desktops :p

The G2 may be better since it has a bigger chassis, but don't quote me on it.

Maybe the Z84JP is an option for you. The speakers of the ASUS Z84JP are (for a notebook) of a good quality.

I considered the G1, G2 and the Z84JP (with an NVIDEA 7700 GO) and decided to buy the Z84JP

the speakers in the G2 are pretty good for a laptop. Id go as far and say its exceptional for its small diameter

How do I make it sound less hollow sounding? I cant tell if theres a reverb (like from the sound options thats not turning off) or if its because the speakers are aimed down that it sounds really hollow and hard to understand voices.

both the G1 and G2 have the Realtek HD Audio manager with DSP (digital signal processing)
Go to your control panel and find the RealTek HD icon
double click on it and the manager will pop up

On the manager there will be Enviromental settings. If its other than 'none' then theres your spacial sound delay youre hearing.
Note theres also 3 dolby settings on the bottom of the manager (Dolby ProLogic, Dolby Virtual Spkr and Dolby Digital). Check to see if any of those are on too.
Theres also a Settings button where you can set the 5.1 Dolby home theatre from Studio, Cinema or Hall
Once you tweak these settings including the 10band eq then you will notice a considerable difference with how your speakers will sound.
