Hi, just wondering which you prefer, and what the advantages of one has over the other?

    Here's what I think:

    SpeedswitchXP -
Pros: Very customizable and easy to configure... useful for configuring power saving modes and CPU speed
Cons: Does not alter brightness of screen

    Power4Gear:
Pros: You can use the button with the running man!... and can change brightness of screen
Cons: Not as customizable as SpeedswitchXP and takes up system resources

I would prefer Speedswitch over Power4Gear... but honestly, I just let WindowsXP handle all of that stuff anyway.

I don't manage to get the Dynamic Switching behavior of SpeedswitchXP with PowerGear in AC mode (I do not care too much about the DC/battery mode), do you? Processor frequency remains high, and as a result, fan stays on pretty often.

I don't really understand how Game/High/Super Peformance modes act with Power4 Gear in term of frequency.

From my tests with CPU-z, game mode= speed switching, high and super modes both run at full speed all the time, thus using these two modes will result in higher power consumption=greater heat=fan on more often.
I use the game setting 95% of the time as I find it doesn't really effect performance at all, and notebook runs alot cooler which I guess it better for the lappie.

As for power4gear, I like it/don't really have a problem with it, but then I'm a simple man, thus I really like the ability to just press one button aka running man.

I agree... honestly, I dont' see a difference between "Super Performance" and "High Performance" ...
Dynamic Switching with SpeedswitchXP is a great thing.
Power4Gear is kinda crappy in my opinion... I'm sure many will concur

I'd be interested in a full comparison test between Power4Gear and SpeedswitchXP, mostly in AC mode, Dynamic Switching mode vs. Game mode.
Underpantman, could you do that for us? Or is it already too darn hot up there in Brisbane?

Apparently it is possible to combine SpeedswitchXP and Power4Gear:

haven't tested that myself since I'm still investigating this F***ING fan-always-on problem.

Possible to combine them? I think not... since once Power4Gear is started, the power profile changes to "Power4Gear" rather than "SpeedswitchXP"... therefore all Speedswitch settings should be useless.
At least that's what I think...from my own experience.
