Just installed Spysweeper 5.0.5 on my W7J.
Now on reboot there is an error message that hcontrol.exe is not running.
It appears that this is a known issue. Has anyone found a solution?

    Thanks
    Tom

Instead of using Spysweeper, used SpyBot Search And Destroy?

Reinstall Hcontrol, and check if everything works properly.

This is the first time i heard about it, so hopefully sypbot will do the job, or even Adaware is nice too.

I've noticed the same thing about SpySweeper. I remember reading somewhere that there was a known issue with no known solution. I've decided HControl is more important to me than SpySweeper...so I said bye bye to SpySweeper.

I opened a ticket with Webroot. They just released version 5 and failed to fix this known problem. More when they reply.

Hi elgato610, how is the progress on this issue? Has Webroot replied to you? I have this problem also, tried to install SpySweeper 5.0 but had to uninstall it again since it killed hcontrol.exe, which is more important to me.

This problem is still present in V5.2.3.

I've tried reinstalling Hcontrol.exe from the Utilities disk (actually, by reinstalling the ACPI drivers and utilities) but it still doesn't work. I also notice that ATKOSD.exe, which controls the on-screen display when changing modes, isn't running either. Is there any way short of a complete system rebuild to recover from this problem?

Doesn't SpySweeper allow for a list of exceptions? Many of the other programs do. A work-around would simply be to add HControl.exe to this list.

I would also suggest CA's Pest Patrol - I love that.... but either way, if it's picking up HControl, you should be able to select it to have it leave it alone.

It monitors for changes to the startup scripts...but doesn't allow you to ignore particular programs. You can edit the startup script file from within Spysweeper, though, which is particularly dangerous to the uninformed...
