So i was wondering if anyone can help me here. I have asus X5EA laptop, around 3,5y old. During that time there has only been few os related problems which i have been able to solve by myself (google).
But few days ago there came this problem and i cant find a way to fix it (maybe hardware problem?).
So the problem is now when i start my laptop, nothing happens. Only power light shines and i can hear faintly the sound of fan.
Only black screen with no background lights, hard drive light also dead. No response to any buttons and holding down power button wont shut it down. Only way to shutdown is to remove ac and battery.
When this first time happened i was able to boot it by removal of battery and using ac powercable only. When i got it booted it worked normally with no problems.
Next day when i started it (still without battery, because i thought faulty battery was the reason for it). Well, the same thing happens, i mean the black screen and nothing happens at all when trying to start laptop.
By removing power supply, adding battery on/off and stuff like holding down to powerbutton without powers to make stored charges to disappear and stuff i get it to start up after like 10-20 restart times.
Now it works fine again. I havent shutted down this laptop for few days now because im too afraid i cant get it to be booted next time at all.
So does anyone have any ideas for this? how to fix? it would be appreciated.

Hello, I've got the same problem with my Asus X5EA.
Have you found a way to fix the problem? After 20 restarts my laptop is not working...
Thanks -
Hi - I've the exact same issue too with my X5EA. Problems started a couple of days ago (Friday). If the laptop is left un-powered and off overnight, it boots up the following day but if it left on for any period of time it goes into a power save mode and won't "wake up".
Any ideas or help would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Well colour me interested...
My X5EA has the exact same issue (24th March); I stepped away to eat lunch so the laptop went into sleep mode and has since failed to wake up. Black screen (no backlit) with the power light on but nothing else. The fan and harddrive utter not a peep. I had a repair guy to look at it who declared it dead and i've been hunting for a replacement but now I see THREE other people at the same time as me experienced the same issue... cannot just be coincidence! -
I have exact same problem, started a month ago, now won't turn on at all. Aargh. Anyone found what the problem is? Built in obsolescence I guess.

Hi,
I have the same problem with my Asus X5EA : blackscreen, only power light on, have to remove battery and power supply.
I was able to reboot few times like avrae.
This happened after hard disk replacement. I suspect some failure on hard drive shock protection sensor ...
Was anyone able to solve this? -
It took some times to unmount it them I put it in my hoven, 250°C for 8mn. If you read this post try it before you throw away your computer!
Search "reflow chipset hoven" in google to know what to do.
Good luck! -
