when i start up the laptop, it says that i have some start up programs blocked. Is there a way to stop that from happening? Are these programs useful? What should i do?

What do you mean by some programs are being blocked? Windows is blocking them from running? You can allow them to run, but you will want to look through some threads regarding removing programs that seem rather useless for your needs.

For example, remove Nortan, Asus Live Update, Splendid, Power4Gear, and etc.

What laptop do you have? Check the owner's lounge for your laptop and see what others have done with their notebooks in terms of removing Asus programs to improve speed and boot up time of their laptops.

To give an answer to your question, at the very least we would need to know what programs are being blocked...

Go to Start -> Run -> msconfig -> Startup. From there, you'll be able to see exactly what is starting up and what is disabled. Post those details here, and you'll get more detailed responses.
