A lot of new notebooks are getting better designs. I really like the Zen type feel of the W2 with it's plain and black, uncluttered appearance.
The first thing I did was peeling off all the stickers because in my opinion it didn't do justice to the basic design.
I know a lot of people leave them on but I wonder what the reason for this is......
It would be nice to hear comments on this subject, do you just like the looks of them? Do you leave them on because it increases the value if you sell it again? Do you like them cause you like to show off the features of your notebook?
Any comment appreciated............

I voted yes, even though my Asus didn't come with an Intel or Windows sticker. Just an ATI sticker, which I can live with (barely)...wasn't there a news story on here about Dell thinking about getting rid of the stickers because they slow their production line down?
-
If my Compaq LT700 had stickers i'd probably leave them on, and cover them up with more personallized sticers, but then the LT700 is nearly 7 years old
. If any of the Asus came with stickers I would ask the reseller to leave them off if possible (so I could stick them to my forehead, of course)

I take them off but as a tip to others if you're worried about resale with them removed simply heat them up a bit with a hair dryer first. They'll peel off much more easily and should take all the adhesive with them. That way you can put them on a spare bit of sticker backing paper and they can be put back on later if you want.

I personally have no problem with sickers on the laptop so much as they don't cause any annoyance or anything. Now if the person put them on crooked or something, or after a while the edges of the stickers start to unpeal themselves, then I would take them all the way off, and have in the past. I would take a windows badge off just because even though I use windows, I it's not by choice (pretty much have to if you want to game).
If I wanted to replace the stickers later, I'd probably just buy a couple from Newegg next time I had an order with them and then just slap 'em on. -

The stickers are to let a new owner who doesn't know jack that they ineed have the things they ordered...... for demoing purposes I'd say most of the novices I see ask what kind of cpu and what kind of graphics card is in the unit and they always want to look around their palms...... stupid.... but what do you expect from stupid people?
I've got a simple solution so follow along. Personally I like them all off (I know what's inside and I have extra stickers if for some reason I needed them). I don't fault people who leave the centrino and maybe ati sticker on there. I get a little sick to my stomach though when people leave on the palm rest stickers........... Asus started putting them on top of plastic that protects the entire palmrest so that people would take them off........... I've still seen people who leave on that big palmrest plastic piece and still put that static sheet between the keyboard the screen every time they close their laptop........... ah.... not to mention the people who don't take the plastic off the screen then complain about the screens quality! See all that stuff left on a computer after a years use.... GROSSSSSSSS.......... itjust gets disgustingly grimy and in my eyes it's pathetic that those people leave that stuff on to "keep it looking new". If you're that shallow you've got other problems to deal with I guess. -
I'll leave it on for a few months, then after I'll take em off.
The Windows one will come off ASAP -
Mine came with a Centrino sticker and a Pentium M sticker, which is kinda redundant, but oh, well. Half a dozen stickers might bother me, but I can live with two.

I didn't get a nVidia sticker on my z71v
-
i keep the static sheet or now i have a microfiber cloth that i put between the keyboard and monitor. ive seen to many monitors scratched because of the keyboard. i take more care of my laptop than most people. but if i spend almost 3 grand on a laptop its like a new car dont u take care of that? But i dont care about keeping stickers i do for the first week maybe then take it off.

is it asus or the dealer....i mean do you have to pay for the right or what...i would think it would be asus but i really dont know -

Not a question question, but it sounds like English isn't your first language... true?
We're an Intel Inside member... every joe schmo isn't accepted.... and basically you have to prove where every centrino sticker goes.... Intel has to see that it went on a certified system and so on and so forth. -
So, what's the best way to get them off? I have read about the "heating them up" thing, any other suggestions? This is the only reason why my stickers are still on.
-
Spraying a bit of WD40 over/around the stickers and then using a flat edge to scrape them off works great... I was taught to do this when I volunteered for a computer refurbishing company. They got me to take all of the stickers off old computers.. then we'd clean them and format the hard drives and ship them off to educational institutions.

the ati and centrino stickers pull off cleanly if you just pull slowly........ thena little alcohol will get the residue off..
-
Great, my stickers will be off by Monday - Thanks!
Edit: I got the stickers off - no problems whatsoever, didn't even have to use heat or WD-40! Looks MUCH better now!!! -
Great news GregM

First laptop i bought i keep the sticker but later on after a while the sticker is kinda peel off on the edge so i take it off and the bad thing is that the colour of the area surrounded the sticker is different with the one where the sticker was... so the first thing when i bought my lappy just take those stickers off.

Exactly.. that's one issue that people will face..... some people who leave on say the palmrest stickers or.. lid stickers of other notebooks....... they leave them on so people think it's "new" and when they get some nasty that you have to remove them... the sun very well may have faded the rest of the paint and now it looks stupid. -
I used to love the stickers...especially that SEXY Centrino one.
But now that I've taken all of my stickers off...(I never DID get that Centrino one) I think that whenever I get a new notebook, I'll take the stickers off right away... it really does look classier without them.
-
I'll take it off soon, I swear!
edit: picture will work in a bit, servers are recoverng atm -
Out they go
This is probably the second thing I'm going to do when I receive my Z70va today
I kept them on the Dell I had, but they irritated the heck out of me. This time I'm not doing the same mistake again
Only sticker I'd like to keep is (probably) the Built on Asus one
-
My M9V came with a huge sticker on the palmrest.... "BUILT IN CAMERA" in big letters, as if having a camera built in is a big deal.
I did not get it for the camera.
But i dunno if i should take it off.. it's one of those silvery rainbow'ish shiney ones.. yanno, the ones that change colour depending on light?
The actual colour just looks funky.... its the words that im worried about. -
I would never de-badge a laptop or desktop if it had "AMD" or "Intel" stickers. Windows stickers I'd keep as well, unless it just REALLY was out of place or in the wrong spot. All other stickers can go.
-
On mine W2V where three stickers ATI, Penium M and Centrino.
All of them are gone, no stickers on a perfect looking machine.
How to get them of? Easely on a W2V because its aluminium. -
Centrino/WinXP/ATI-X700 stickers are still on it, and they won't be removed here, actually, I like them.
I did remove the Asus warranty sticker though... -
The only sticker I put on my z63a was the ASUS one on the lid where it has an indentation to do so. I think the laptop looks much sleeker without sickers - take the apple books for example. Plus, if someone wants to know then I can just tell them what is in it. And if I sell my laptop to someone that does want the stickers on in the end then I still have them.
It always annoys me when people dont take the stickers off of any electronics such as tv's, video cameras, and especially computers. I find people who really dont understand what they have keep sickers on (a generality of course). And of course, after while the computer or whatever looks durtier with the stickers than without them. Just think about how durty your hands are when you use your laptop and how these stickers can accumulate gunk from them over time.
As you can see this is something that has bothered me. -
My MS-1022 came with only the nvidia sticker attached. There was a Pentium M sticker in the packaging, but I did not attach. I will leave the lone nvidia sticker on there. It adds a little to the open notebook. If there were anymore...especially large palmrest stickers, I'd remove those in a heartbeat.
I chose no, because I am leaving the lone sticker attached. -
I've always prefered the blank / bland computers without all the decal's
-
i was thinking to leave all of my stickers on, but after reading all these comments, i decided to take all of them off. they all peeled off easily =]
-
I don't have a Problem with stickers at all. My Z81sp came with only the "Graphics by Nvidia" sticker already on it. I added the 2 other stickers on my notebook which was of course the 'Built on ASUS" and the "Pentium 4 HT Inside"
Any other stickers on this notebook besides the 3 I have on there, now I would have a problem with it and have to peel off that winodws sticker. -
As soon as they start to peel, they're gone.
-
Stickers are the first thing to go when I get a new notebook - I hate wating a long time before removing them because the stickers leave an "imprint" of where they used to be and it just looks really tacky in the end IMO. I'll leave the GPU/CPU sticker though, but the foil "Designed for Windows XP" sticker has to go as it just looks dumb IMO - basically almost all notebooks have XP running on them, so I really don't see the need of having such a sticker.
-
-
My Z70VA came with the Built By Asus, ATI X700, and Intel Centrino stickers. Didn't bother me. I even added the Sound Blaster sticker that came with my audigy 2 zs notebook. Don't plan on putting anymore on. Honestly, I don't see what's the big deal with a few stickers. I can find bigger things to be anal about, but to each his own!
-
yyeessss! take em off, they're like blemishes on a beatiful laptop, I prefer the nice clean looks...and after alot of use they tend to gather dirt
-
I realized I liked getting my ASUS with the ATI and the Centrino sticker on the palmrest.. but I think I will use the hairdryer trick and move them to underneath where you can't see them.
-
-
I never thought about removing the stickers, but after reading this thread and having a good look at the three stickers on my W2V, I promptly decided to remove them...
-
It feels clean and sleek without them, doesn't it?
I used to be attached to having stickers...but now I can't stand them. -
Yeah it looks better indeed. I used to leave the stickers on to show off a bit I guess, but now it's kinda like having an Audi or a Mercedes without the type on the back, which is actually much classier...
-
Before you decide to remove the tacky stickers, i hope you do realise that you'll lose about 15fps in FPS games if those stickers are gone. Proportable, shame on you for not telling them this vital info!!
-
i like to show off what the computers got in it
so i leave em on, and i think it would look so plain without the stickers
-
-
I took off all my stickers. Two reasons mainly.
1) They are dead ugly. I don't want to see ads.
2) When the wear begins to show on the palmrest, I don't want there to be areas (below the sticker) that are unevenly worn. That's going to look even worse. -
On my old laptop (6 years old) I removed the stickers when I first got it.
However, I didn't know that the "Made for Windows XP" one was a sticker.... Only took me a few years, but now it's off! Didn't leave any imprint (that is noticeable anyway)
Stickers on or off?
