I've had this laptop since September. I haven't really pushed this laptop to its limits until more recently. My idle CPU and northbridge temps are around 60C and my gpu is idling at 80-85C (using Speedfan 4.40). I can't be certain, but I think these temps have been consistent since I bought it. I am using this laptop on a flat, wooden desk. I am using nvidia's 195.62 driver with core/shader/memory at 500/1250/799 (these are default right?).

I recently bought a tv tuner usb card. When watching HD digital cable, the video is nice and smooth, but my gpu temp goes to 110C and then it downclocks itself severely (horrible, laggy picture) until it reaches 100C when it reverts back to normal clock and repeats this cycle. If I plug in my external 1080p 22" monitor and deactivate the built in lcd, it hits the thermal trip and the laptop shuts itself off.

These temperatures are with normal clocks. If the cpu is overclocked to 3ghz, cpu temps stay around 70 when stressed, northbridge gets up to 80, so the temperatures here are fine.

My question is, am I going to be able to get this replaced under warranty? If they're unable to replicate the gpu going up to 110C, will they still fix it or just send it back? Or will they fix it simply because my idle temps are so high? What would be the best course of action for me on this one?

    Hi,

I have the exact same problem, and i am beginning to investigate some solutions. Do you have found one? Is returning the computer to the tech support the only solution?
