    Hi,

I have bought Asus F3SC (T7300 Cpu) 2 weeks ago. My problem (maybe this is normal, i dont know) is that fan is always running, even cpu load is very low like %3-5. But not at full speed.

Let me explain with details. For example, I put pc into hibernate mode. After waiting for it cools downs enough, switch on and see that cpu temp. is 30, and there is no fan sound (but i think it is turning because if i get my ear near the pc, i can hear a very low sound like that). 4-5 min later, temp. goes up 46 and fan starts that you can hear it easily if the room is silent enough. With the running fan, cpu temp. goes down 43-44 steady and after that, if load is low or cpu is idle, fan's always running on that low speed that is not disturbing except you concentrated on fan :) (forgot to say that Power4gear is on "quite office" mode that clock freq. is 800 mhz constant - SLFM state). Then I change mode to "super performance", and increase the load. If temp. go over 52, fan speeds up. if cooling deficient, speeds up more and become loud. After load dropped, temp. decreases 43-44 again and fan slows as you know.

Now, is this normal, or is there a problem with the default "temparature/fan rpm" settings? Is there the same situation on other Asus laptop users?

I tried Notebook Hardware Control to control fan, but i've noticed that its acpi control module isn't compatible with new santa rosa cpus yet.. Actually, you can ask why i so obsessed about this :) But my old laptop is an Asus too (about 4 years old), on it, when cpu heat is high, fan starts. when cpu heat is cold enough, fan stops fully. that was all. (but its cpu temp. is never under 55 degrees) Anyway, after using a quiet laptop, i got a bit obsessed about fan sounds :p

(ps: I've installed Windows Xp immediately when i bought the laptop. So, i dont know the fan responses on Vista).

    Thanks for answers :)

Normal situation. All new laptops get very hot so they have to be actively cooled, permanently.
