I was wondering if anyone else out there who has a C90s with the new 8600GT DDR3 edition is running into this:
    I have 2 C90s'. The first one i got has the 512MB DDR2 version of the 8600GT. I recently bought an additional C90s unit from gentech.com with the new 8600GT DDR3 (256mb).
I received it yesterday and started comparing benchmarks between the DDR2 and DDR3 versions of the C90s'.
My DDR2 C90s scored around 3000 marks with the latest drivers from laptopvideo2go.com at the time (163.69).

However, the DDR3 version only marked at 2200 marks!!
At first i thought i must have received a defective DDR3 8600gt....Then i finally just loaded the original STOCK Nvidia drivers that came with the card.....When i reran the benchmarks it scored around 3700 marks.

I tried several different 160 series nvidia drivers on the DDR3 version of the card and it kept scoring way under what it does with the stock drivers.
The DDR2 version of the card scores pretty much the same whether i use the stock drivers or the latest ones.
    Anyone else experiencing this???

I think Ken reported the same behavior. While most drivers are mostly the same, somtimes the manufactuer does some very specific things to the drivers to make it work correctly on the machine, the new card seems to probably be one of those cases.

My first guess is that maybe its throttling down due to heat, the ddr2 version was used supposedly because the gddr3 stuff was too hot at first, so maybe they cut the voltage to it to make it run cooler?

I dont know. I just think it is strange....I am hoping that Asus puts out new drivers for it themselves.....ALthough i guess as long as the old stock drivers work with all games, etc.. (bioshock, etc..), then i wont even need to worry.

Well that's what I guess. As long as the stock drivers work, why worry about it? Just use them and enjoy your notebook.

I've got the gddr3 C90 coming tomorrow, and I'm going to use the drivers that come with the card, and pull any others off the asus site given the nature of the savage machine :D

    Congrats on your 2 c90s!

When you get a chance I would like to know the highest stable oc using riva tuner on the c90 with ddr3. Ken got a max 5674 on 3dmark06.
