When playing DVDs on my new W3J every 5-10 seconds there will be a very brief stutter or pause just long enough to notice. Have no other applications running and it's running off AC power. Any ideas?

Could be software. I notice sometimes there's a flicker on MPC, but VLC plays DVDs better for me. Have you tried a variety of software, inc WMP?

As mentioned, perhaps you need newer codecs.

Is that a Vader pugg?
You shouldn't get stutter of course, but it's usually a software issue. If you have a stutter in more than one decoder, then I'd worry, but most of the time asusdvd is pretty good... media player is getting better..... I still like nvidia's old NVDVD... I forget what it's called now, but it's not a dedicated player, but now rather a pluggin... perhaps for WMP -
I don't know if this helps or not but - I think there was a post about this in another big notebook site.....sorry I can't remember the name. It might be called notebookforums or something similar. I think I saw some posts by MilestonePC there too. This was a while ago that I saw this but I do remember that the guy whos name was "TedsAsleep" (don't know why i remember that) had the same problem but he did find a solution to it.
I hope this is somewhat helpful. I tried googling it myself, however, a lazy look came up empty. If other players don't seem to do anything, keep searching, the same problem has come up and also been solved. Wish I could help more explicitly.....

As suggested, you need to try multiple programs and multiple DVDs in those programs. You will then find 1 of 3 things (hopefully). If there is a stutter in only one program, regardless of the DVD, then its that program. If there is a stutter with one DVD across multiple programs, its likely a scratched or dirty DVD. If there is always a stutter, regardless of the program or DVD, then you likely have a problem with the DVD drive. Sometimes if you have a bad DVD, Windows will bump the settings from the DVD drive to a really low setting. Basically, if the DVD drive were reading a book, it would be reading letter by letter, instead of by words. As you can imagine, this will cause the information to come into the computer slowly, and you get a stutter. If you think thats the case, post back here, or search google for this. Include PIO mode in your search, because thats what the drive reverts to, and you will find results on how to change back from that.

Try using Cyberlink PowerDVD ver. 7. No problems for me.
