I ordered over the weekend when Asus G73JH-A2's were available with 15% cashback from TD. It said Order today, ships today. So I took the shot and went ahead and bought it Friday night (or saturday morning around 1AM). Next day I got an email saying credit card processing crap and that to call them when they are open on Monday-Friday. That's what the email stated. Apparently, they are open on the weekends too but only for a few hours in the morning. I missed the Saturday call and I didn't wake up for the Sunday call. I was worried because it was already sold out on the website. It said usually ships within 7-21 days instead of order today, ships today (then it disappeared entirely and still is not there). Reading through these forums, when I found out that you could call on weekends, I called a bit later but to their TD line and not the credit card processing. The person who helped me out told me specifically that my order was on hold ready to ship as soon as my credit card was processed.

So i called immediately Monday morning and got my credit card processed. Fine right? Later that I check for any shipping updates, no luck. I check today again, no luck. So I decide to call.

The person I talked to said that it was on backorder and it would take a week or so to see if they got new stack. I am obviously frustrated because I thought I would be getting it this week, the week I get back from college.

So now i'm left wondering if I should wait or just cancel it and order with powernotebooks or other resellers like them. I bought it from TD initially because they had it on stock, but they also have cashback, so i'm not sure.

    Ok, that was frustration speaking.

I checked the TD site to check if they had the laptop available or not, and checked what bing cashback was at right now. Bing is @ 12%, down from 15%.

I called TD and was actually able to get TD to upgrade my order for free from an A2 to an A1. I really have no use for blu-ray, but it's nice to have I suppose. I'd rather have an A2 since it seems wasteful.

Does anyone know if this affects my original purchase with 15% bing cashback? I'm supposed to get 240$ bing cashback, i'm wondering if they will somehow cancel it.

Furthermore, I went to check out my TigerDirect order status after they said they switched it. On the TigerDirect website, Asus G73JH-A1 says Order Today, Ships Today. On my order status (after they updated it) it says:

All Backordered - These items are currently on backorder, and will ship as soon as we receive stock on them. ( We are currently doing a physical inventory. Your order may temporarily show on backorder. Please allow 48 hours for your status to update. )

It just has me worried. I was just really expecting and planning around receiving the laptop within this week.

Well that's a shame, I must have gotten one of the last ones. I had to call again for the 3rd time to see why my it was still only in processing phase.

Finally about 1pm central time it said payment sent to warehouse and about 8pm I finally got a tracking number.

I guess it sucks your prob not getting your laptop this week if it doesnt ship out today or tomorrow. But getting upgraded to the A1 for free seems nice. As long as you didnt have to recharge anything I would think Bing would be fine. I dunno for sure though, if so, you saved about 85 bucks, so not bad.

But yeah, I guess in the end, it's prob just more disappointing that TD did that and because of it, you may not get the laptop this week :\.

Sorry, but this is bad news. :( :( :(

As soon as you had them switch to a different laptop it is now considered a new transaction. The original 15% Bing was tied to the first transaction for the A2, but since that transaction no longer exists Microsoft will not be able to find in their system that you opened a Bing session through them to make a purchase at Tiger Direct for an A1.

Every cashback transaction is tracked by Bing with a 15-digit Purchase ID#, without this there is no way to prove that you are owed cashback.

First thing I would do is contact TD to ask how they went about in doing the exchange or "upgrade". If they cancelled or voided the initial transaction in order to make a new one for the A1 then it doesn't look good. Ask them if that will void your Bing cashback.

You can also contact Bing support if you must, ...but I realistically don't see them budging on this one.

I really wish you the best of luck!

By the way, Chango, I'm also in San Diego and I ordered mine around 7pm on Friday too. Mine still says in processing, but when I called their automated system said mine would ship out later today. But you never know, mine might end up on backorder too which means I'd have to contact Bing to make sure my CB isn't affected by the delay. This is because the vendor doesn't send confirmation to Bing that the transaction was successful until the item ships. At least this is how it is supposed to work.

    edit:

And I didn't mean to sound negative earlier, but I've just heard many stories of Bing customer service not being so accomodating (at the shopping site I frequent) if a mistake was made. But there's always hope that you will get a very nice CSR.

From what I can tell, only the actual item itself was changed. I still have the same order number, the price is still what I originally paid, but the item number & description has changed.

If I had known it was the same order number from the getgo then I wouldn't have panicked as much, lol. Sounds like you're still good to go then.

Ye, that's what I was meaning too when I said "as long as they didnt have to re-charge the credit card" I was more so meaning the order number stayed the same.

I'm actually a little bit jealous of Chango99, but since I technically have no use for a BD-Rom in the first place I dont care that much.

Guess he now has the best deal for an A1 on the forums.

that's what's uncool about TD, only if you hold your mouth just right, the moon is in the correct phase, you pay with the right method and rub some chicken bones together at midnight does your order ship the same day. LOL.

Every single paypal order and basically every CC order always gets snagged for 'verification' for me.

Lame, I made an order for the a2 on saturday. Then it goes into back-order and now it says declined. I wouldn't mind if this if they had not left two 1600 pending charges on my credit card.

Hey, theamigo, when you ordered yours on Sunday (May 9th?) did it say on the Product Page: " Order Today, Ships Today"? Because, IIRC, on Saturday (May 8th) someone mentioned that the A2 had changed it's status to "ships in 7-21 days". Maybe that's why it took longer to ship yours.

Also, May 9th was the day when they took the A2 off their website making it "unavailable", so you barely made it through. Congrats.

    Edit:

When I check my UPS tracking it says 20.90 Lbs. I don't know why it would say one pound in your case, that is odd.

Maybe it's a plastic, with concrete insert, 1/8 scale Matchbox kit version of the G73JH? :D

Seriously, maybe it's listed that way to cut down on the shipping cost. I don't think anyone is going to know for sure with the exception of Tiger Direct who set up the shipping.

i called td and they said they weighed it at 20 lbs but they probably misprinted on the sticker. they told me ups doesnt weigh the package themselves. chango99 on the td site it says the package weight is 20. why is yours less?

Mine said it was 8.6lbs. But I have bad news, I got my A2 yesterday, and it worked fine for all of about an hour or 2. Did a reboot after installing some general updates, including the 10.4 drivers.

And the screen never came back on, couldnt even get VGA to work. Honestly, I dunno what happened. Like the screen wouldnt come back on at all, I spent an hour trying all the tricks I could. Even removed the HDDs, though dunno what that really would help.

So with that said, I gave up, called TD and since I used Paypal, I could only return it for a refund. Which was super easy, got my UPS pre-paid, and sent it back yesterday too.

So for me, I'm done, not getting another G73, prob going to move on to a Sager now. Still unsure, I do however wish the best of luck to everyone else, and even got a little inside info as the TD rep told me they are getting more A2's on monday.

HF with y'alls G73s, sure my monitor problem was the most randomest fluke ever as it has not happened to anyone else.

This is bullcrap. I ordered way before the 15% cashback was posted here or on slickdeals cause I was looking for a new bing cashback every morning, which was Friday morning. By the time they called me back to verify the order everything was fine. The UPS tracking says shipped, but I did not receive the laptop and instead received only another laptop I ordered as well as a laptop cooler. Spoke with a CSR and they told me they would either refund, choose an inferior laptop, or I would have to wait a month + to receive the laptop because they shipped it to someone else now...

Sorry to hear that. Have you considered trying one of the notebook retailers that frequent these forums? I didn't know about them when I purchased my G73 back in February, but if I was to do it all over again, that's probably the direction I would go. Stick with people who know what they are doing and can test the unit before it goes out. Just a thought.

Yeah, that is a strange one indeed.

Good luck and don't forget to come back once in awhile.

ye, thats correct, you dont need to sign.

    @Kalim,

Yeah I will probably be going XoticPC, but Really cant afford past 1400, without Bing, the G73 ends up being too expensive. So for now I'm looking into the Sager NP8690, I will have to sacrifice the i7 and the 17" form factor, but I can at least still get a 1080p screen as well as the 5870m for about $1350 after shipping. I dunno for sure yet, but if I do order, it will definitely be XoticPC. Already been emailing them about the order, they offer a 1% student discount, so that helps a little.

I also wish you the best. I think the Sager NP8690 is a great alternative to the G73JH. I've spent waaay past an A1 to get my G73JH the way I like it. But the most important asset to me is LONGEVITY witch I believe the G73JH lacks. Please keep in touch. Could you possibly PM when you get your new lappy so I can get your comparisons.

    It must get hectic at the main TigerDirect warehouse because they seem to be late with many of our orders. I really hope that workers aren't "accidentally" dropping laptop boxes here and there in all the commotion. >_>;

Sorry to hear about all the bad luck with people's laptops. One drawback with saving money with Bing cashback is having to buy it from TD, the "walmart" of electronic e-tailers. I haven't shopped from XoticPC before but I'm guessing they actually care about their customers.

I am praying that nothing goes extremely wrong with mine or back to TD it goes too. *sigh*
