I have a n55s, and it would be extremely helpful if I could power it up via an external USB keyboard. I've scoured the BIOS, but I can't find anything. I thought I'd ask here just in case there is some hidden setting or some way to make this work.

usually this is just in the bios settings, if not there then I don't think it would be supported.
last option is to just "sleep" the computer then you can use an external keyboard to wake it up.

There is no option for a keystroke to power on from the keyboard like there are on some motherboards. You can wake from an external keyboard however.

If keystroke or keyboard isn't listed under your Power On options in BIOS, then yes, as ALLurGroceries mentioned, you can use an external keyboard. Try looking for one that has a dedicated power button.
