I hope I'm in the right section here. Please excuse me if I have made a mistake.
I recently purchased an Asus G50V A1, and it rocks. The problem is, I bought it with the wrong OS, Vista. I am now attempting to fix this mistake by installing a copy of XP Pro 64bit. However, because of this, I don't know what drivers to download. The computer came with a drivers disk, but for Vista. I went to Asus's web page and while they don't list XP outright, they do have an 'other' drivers section. However, all I see are BIOS drivers. What can I do for all of the other things? I'd like to avoid going to 10 different places for drivers if at all possible.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what I should do?

I would rather say XP 64bit IS WRONG OS
It is famous for lack of drivers
May you refrain if you can? -
Well... to be honest, I'm not sure I like Vista though. I've heard bad things, and I'm quite used to XP.
Is XP 64 that bad? Should I go with 32? I thought with 32 I can't make use of all of my memory... -
Yes, XP64 is that BAD.
What to do? I wouldn't rush with original OS (Vista in your case) and give it try for 2-3 weeks. It is never late to change it after you build up your personal opinion.
I do not share the idea of changing OS on just out of box NB.
JUST MARRIED -
Vista won't be as bad as you hear it is. In my opinion... it could have been a lot BETTER.

I would advise XP32 instead of XP64, for the driver issues mentioned above. And you could surely give Vista a try.
As to the drivers for XP32, here they are: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3819988#post3819988 -
EBE, I looked at the link but I am afraid I am confused as to what I have to do. I have an XP CD, but when I try to install just using it, I blue-screen. I am assuming this is because of the 'slipstream' thing, but I am confused by that. I tried to use that program and clicked iaStor.inf, but it came up with a list of things and I did not know which one to pick.
Also, I don't know if that is all I need to do to the Windows install, or if I have to do something with those drivers listed as well. Any help would be appreciated, because I am completely stuck as to how to get this to work. -
So you never even tried Vista and don't even want to give it a try just from word of mouth? Not a very intelligent thing to do. I also have the G50V-A1 with Vista 64. IThis is my first experience with vista and Have heard a ton of non-descript anti vista comments from many people. Now that I'm using it I have a completely different opinion of the people that spread this information without even using it.
So far Vista is a little harder to navigate than XP but I remember the same thing when switching from Win98 to XP. The good thing is that Windows is so customizable (and Vista) that you can try a bunch of things out to make it easier to navigate for your personal use. -
There's really only one reason to still use XP on a brand-new high-end laptop, that is if you need software that is XP only which even then is pretty darn rare.

I am happy to report almost everything is working now, except for my problem listed here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3917896#post3917896
