EDIT: My error, it's actually a P8700. The Lenovo my girlfriend's university gave her is pretty solid. Despite being ugly, came with an HD3470, 2GB DDR3 at 1066MHz, Win XP, and a shiny new P8700. It's not an G51, but it's still pretty nice.
At any rate, I asked her if I could swap processors, and she said I could. What kind of performance increase am I gonna get, anything noticeable? How much more heat am I looking at producing? How well do they overclock (on average)?
Forge, was it you that pulled your "Do no remove" sticker without breaking it? How did you do that, just using a razor and going about the whole thing slowly?
-
Oh, and someone recommend a thermal paste.
-
as for heat it will likely stay the same they have identical TDP.
and as for oc you can probaly hit 3.1.
you are going to see a dif in cpu intensive tasks thats about it. on average you wont feels the diff.
yes curently ICD7 is the best. can be found here http://innovationcooling.com/dealers.htm -
Yeah, but I'll also have bragging rights and I might be able to beat Forge's scores again.

You can do it Forge's way minus the Parkinson's, or you can use a heatgun or a hairdryer to heat up the sticker a bit and remove it carefully.
At factory clocks, the P7350 is 2GHz and the P8700 is 2.53GHz. The difference in performance is 26.5%. The heat output from the P8700 shouldn't be much greater than the P7350. They are both the same chip so both of them should overclock fairly similarly.
I would stay by my recommendation and suggest to you MX-2, or if you got the dough, MX-3. -
How about OCing to 2.5GHz without the underclock and running Orthos in order to heat up the sticker glue? Or is that just... not something that will work the way I think it will?
-
I'll pick up some MX-3 by the way. I'll put on new GPU paste while I'm at it. Should I just put a dime size amount in the center of both processors and let the heatsink spread the paste?

What the hell? A dime-sized amount? Yes, you should do that so it can all squish out of the sides in a messy goo.

My P8700 runs cool as can be even overclocked to the hilt. max of 64C or so. If I could push my CPU a bit more, Forge's score would definitely be in sight. =p

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
The sticker wasn't fully attached. I guess I was lucky. I just had to push the unstuck part out of the way to allow my screwdriver access.
And you're welcome to my score.
