    Hi all

I've had this laptop a little over a month... after some initial problems with the fingerprint scanner I got it working. Then it stopped. So i've been looking into it.

I re-installed fingerprint scanner drivers and Asus Security Protect Manager but still the same problem - the application hangs with an error message.

So I started to go deeper - and discovered all about the TPM, so I decided to reinstall the TPM drivers (infineon). When I try and install this, I get the error message:
"Trusted Platform Module Could Not Be Found".

Looking at the services, there is a service named "TPM Base Services", which was not running. I try and start this service, and I get another error about the service starting and then being stopped.

I looked on Google and i'm thinking there is an issue between the software and the TPM hardware. Other previous answers have suggested that there is a BIOS option to enable/disable TPM and Infineon software installed in Vista - I have neither.

Does anybody know what I need to do here? I didn't do anything of note that would have stopped it from working!

Thanks in advance for any help

That's because M51Sn does not have TPM, therefore, the driver won't install.

    Hi Ken

    Thanks for the reply.
The Asus website says that the laptop does have TPM:
"Embedded TPM is a hardware solution that helps to avoid attacks by hackers looking to capture passwords and encryption keys to sensitive data."

Assuming you are correct; do you know what else would cause the slow performance and then crashing of the fingerprint reader software?

    Thanks again

That's because the TPM is optional, at least they didn't put one in North America Version.

You said the application hangs with an error message, can you provide the error message?

Strange - that is the US site! Must be a copy-and-paste marketing thing.

Ok, order of events - when trying to register the prints when first logging on (at the first stage, 'enroll your fingerprints') it takes forever and shows as "not responding"). Eventually it will proceed to the next screen where you choose the fingers to register.
Here I get a whole load of problems, depending on what it feels like. Exampes:
-It won't allow you to select any fingers
-Clicking on a finger to register it gets me "Specified mandatory fingerprints should be registered to complete the registration process"
-Clicking on additional fingers gets me "you are not allowed to register additional fingers"
-Clicking on any finger it says "you must register a minimum of 7134009 fingerprints"

I end up having to close it down.

If I go through the main ASPM dashboard and click "register my fingerprints", the cursor turns into a pointy hand and nothing happens until you task manager it closed.

Basically, it's screwed and no amount of uninstall/reinstall will fix it :(

can't duplicated any of the problems you are having, you might want to check on device manager to see if the finger print sensor driver is installed properly.
