Like many other people here I can't get my TS-L632 DVD drive to work properly. It refuses to burn anything, sometimes it clicks extremely loud, and when starting from sleep with a DVD in it seems to lock Vista up from starting. Now I've tried most of the solutions I've seen on the forum but perhaps someone can still help me out.

    1. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling through windows, but all this has accomplished is me loosing the driver.
    2. Installed the Samsung live updater, but it claims it doesn't support my particular type of TS (the AS 05Z).
    3. Downloaded the exe on this thread but couldn't get it to work.
    4. Downloaded the firmware from Softpedia, but now I have a .bin file I don't know what to do with. Is .bin a disk image?
    5. Several of the threads link to Toshibaer, but that site is no longer with us it seems.

I think I'm supposed to flash the firmware, but I don't know how to flash or where to get that utility. Can anyone help?

It can also be that the hardware is faulty, in which case you can replace it from warranty (or just buy a new one from a reputable brand for around 50 bucks, assuming it's a standard slimline ODD).

Does the windows flash utility in the first link require a specific drive or is it universal? I have a L632D and neither of the DOS programs list it.

    Thanks for the answers btw!

I don't know, perhaps D3X will answer that.

From the first link I provided is the Toshiba Firmware Flash utility page, you can either download the DOS flash Utility found here: v175TEG.exe
or the Windows based Flash Utility Twinfwup2 - Windows flasher v9.3.7.0

Then download the firmware from rpc1.org's site, the newest one available is T033

I would recommend DOS over Windows for lesser risk of bricking your drive, you will need to create a bootable drive from USB with DOS Flash Utility and Firmware Bin file.

    EDIT: See below...

Actually, forget what I said above, wrong model, your's is L632D, didn't notice the last letter...

Use this Dell firmware patcher found here, it's for the exact same drive:

    http://ftp.us.dell.com/rmsd/DE04-2.zip

Don't know if this will work, but if it doesn't contact Toshibaer @ www.toshibaer.com with their Firmware request form and he can help you in greater detail as to how to flash the drive.
