My W7J has a TSSTCorp TS-L632D optical drive, and I find it finicky with media. I'd like to find an updated firmware. Have any leads?
Also, for those who use the TSSTCorp TS-L632D, how does yours perform?
-
I don't have that Samsung drive in my W7J, but rather a UJ-850S. However Softpedia lists three versions of the firmware for your drive at;
http://drivers.softpedia.com/public/drivers/21-1972.shtml
http://drivers.softpedia.com/public/drivers/21-3664.shtml
http://drivers.softpedia.com/public/drivers/21-4405.shtml
Admittedly this is Samsung firmware and not firmware for the drive, from Asus, but I would have to assume that it would be ok to update the drive with firmware from the drive manufacturer. Also in this thread other users complained about this drive, especially when the drive is running in PIO mode. They mention that a Dell utility at the following URL;
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...gen&releaseid=r53986&formatcnt=1&fileid=63977
that can help make sure that your drive is operating in DMA mode, which may be able to address certain issues. -
Thanks. I found those earlier. The Samsung firmware won't load. It gives me an error.
I have confirmed that I'm running in Ultra-DMA. -
I have the TSSTCorp TS-L632D running on a W7J as well and it seems to be fine with the DVD blank media I've thrown at it (I've used Memorex, Philips, Taiyo Yuden, Fujifilm, TDK). Can't even recall it producing a coaster with any of the media I've used.
-
Thanks for that. I'm having more trouble with CD-Rs. I can only burn at 4x, or I get a coaster (tried with several different media).
DVD media seems to work better. -
Anyone else? Please?
-
I have that drive and it has performed well with DVD media. Not a single coaster, and the burn quality looks good (PI/PIF scanned with my lite-on). I only burned 2 CD's so far, at 24X, with no problems.

Samsung list the latest firmware as SC04. Does the live update work?
Otherwise you will have to chase Asus for either an updated firmware or a replacement ODD.

I don't have any issues with CD's, but then again I'm not burning many CDs anymore. I've used CD-RW (Memorex, Maxell) and the cheap Riteks CD-R that you can get at NCIX (I see you are from Abbotsford, I'm in Vancouver) and don't have any issues with burning. What software are you using to burn?
-
Any burning software -- Windows, NERO, others.
-
Since other users have not had any problems with the same OD, I'd suggest to RMA it. It might even be possible to RMA the drive only -- on my computer there's just one screw and then the drive slides out.

Hello all,
Everyone talks about this AS99 firmware for TS-L632D but none says where to download it....pleaseeee tell me!!! im going crazy trying to find it.
Thanx -
Hi,
if someone is still lookinf for firmware for the TS-L632D should visit http://www.toshibaer.com/firmware
Karl -
At www.toshibaer.com you find various firmwares and tools.
Use sfdnwin -nocheck to cross-flash.
Use a version 3.25 of lower, otherwise the nocheck option is suppressed.

Yeah, this drive is friving me nuts
.I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and that has a L632D DVD drive. I am having terrible problems with it. Some media it reads ok, some DVD's it won't load at all and others start showing artefacts half way through. However, some films work fine (?)
As for burning media it works with CD-R's but DVD's appear to burn then it displays nothing on the disc in My Computer. In 'Roxio Creator DE' it now can't even see my DVD drive (!)
I have spoken to Dell support and they talked me through installing media codecs (tried telling them it is a hardware fault!). That made no difference.
Dell Support site has no firmware upgrade for this model.
Final bizarre thing that happens is after playing a DVD game the disk won't stop 'spinning down'. Just keeps whirring away with the light flickering. I wish I could get Dell to take the drive back.
About to forget it and purchase a new slimline DVD drive - any suggestions?
Thanks, -
tsst drives seem to be bad since 05. sad asus still uses them... makes me want to look for a notebook that doesn't have any drive from tsst.
-
My W3J had the same TSST drive and the drive started to make coasters after about one year (I rarely used it though)... so I just changed it to HL GSA-T10N two weeks ago.
TSSTCorp TS-L632D --> Firmware??
