Taichi21 goes to sleep when closing lid, even with "Do nothing" setting

I have a Taichi21 that I want to connect to external display and keyboard, so I want the laptop to keep running when I close the lid (with the second tablet screen set to disabled).

I set all the lid/sleep options in Power Options to "Do nothing", but the laptop still goes to sleep a few seconds after I close the lid.

I talked to ASUS Taichi tech support on the phone, and they were of no help whatsoever. They told me to reset the laptop, which did not make any difference. Then they told me to ship the laptop to their repair center, which I did.

Ten days later I got the laptop back from "repair". They had reinstalled the OS and updated the BIOS. But sure enough, the laptop still goes to sleep as soon as I close the lid (which clearly shows that the "repair" people did not even check that before shipping the laptop back).

Does anybody know if there is a way to prevent the Taichi21 from going to sleep when closing the lid?

    Thank you,
    Ugo

The command powercfg does not seem to have any options for changing the lid close action (as somebody also commented in that article).

And of course I don't want that the laptop never goes to sleep, only that it does not go to sleep just because I close the lid. If it goes to sleep after a certain period of inactivity, that is perfectly fine.

I think the problem is that the "close lid" behavior is controlled by the Asus utility "Asus Close Lid" and by the hardware screen switch on the side of the laptop, not by Windows power settings. You basically have only two options: either the laptop goes in tablet mode when you close the lid (and the outer screen turns on automatically) or the laptop goes to sleep when you close the lid.
In order to control the behavior of the "close lid" action through Windows power settings, I'm afraid you will have to uninstall/disable the "Asus Close Lid" utility...but I can't guarantee it will work.
The hope is that Asus will update the utility including an extra option, but I doubt that will happen.....

One thing I noticed is that the problem disappears if I uninstall the ATK Package. But I imagine that running without ATK would then cause other problems.

I tried to uninstall the ASUS Close Lid utility, and indeed the laptop stops going to sleep when I close the lid. But now I see a different problem: the laptop never goes to sleep when the lid is closed. What I expected was that, with the lid closed, the laptop would still go to sleep after the period of inactivity specified in the power plan, but it does not.

Is that part of Windows behavior once you specify "do nothing" when closing the lid, or is there a way to keep the laptop awake when closing the lid but still allowing it to go to sleep after a period of inactivity (with the lid closed)?

With my PC (normal laptop) I have it set to do nothing when the lid is closed. It will not go to sleep after a specific time period. This is because I set it to "DO NOTHING".

You are looking for an option for: "DO NOTHING BUT GO TO SLEEP AFTER 20 MINUTES OF INACTIVITY" ......LOL

The Windows power option says "When I close the lid - Do nothing", it does not say "When the lid is closed - Do nothing". That for me implies that the "Do nothing" applies to the action of closing the lid, not to the status of the lid being closed.

So I don't see any contradiction in principle to the idea that the computer does nothing *when I close the lid* but does something later on.
