I've been interested in the Asus S6FM series for a while and just came across a seller in Ebay Taiwan selling the white model for the same price as it is here but with a 160 gig vs 120 gig hard drive and 1.5 gigs vs 1 gig of ram. The white model so far in the U.S I've seen is only sold by Datavision, model S6FM-1P057C with N wireless. I'd like to know the differences between a Taiwanese and American model, I think they use 220 voltage for instance and their keyboards will be different as well from American ones? It may not be worth it to import with the keyboard especially perhaps. Any input is appreciated in advance, thank you. :)

Here is the auction by the way.

voltage/power is exactly the same, keyboard layout is the same but just has english and chinese characters on it. bios and everything is in english. just the manual and stickers on the bottom of the notebook are in chinese.

also the warranty is global so no problems in the US...

operating system is going to be in chinese, so you will need your own copies of XP/vista to put on.

The operating system language can easily be changed during the setup process, and I believe the default is English.. Well atleast Vista is.

Yes it is a lot cheaper but some of the specs will be different.

There are streets with tons of computer shops, you gotta shop around and bargain.

The only place I've seen selling the White Asus S6FM in America is Datavision and I can get the Taiwanese version from the Ebay link I mentioned for a little bit cheaper and I get 1.5 vs 1 gigs of ram and 160 vs 120 gig 5400 rpm hard drive, the American version has the newer N wireless card but I don't care about that.

Good to see the keyboard is the exact same except for the added Chinese characters which I won't understand but its cool anyways to have a foreign keyboard. :D

Im guessing all laptops come with Vista now so i dont know if what im gonna say is applicable to ur case, but they will most likely give u a chinese(traditional chinese) version of Windows. It should be standard procedure if u ask for it. They did for my W3J anyways.
I went to a local Asus office 2 days after my laptop purchase and requested for an English OS, they asked for me to leave with them my laptop, and said they would call back when its ready.
So i went home and a hour or so later they called back saying its ready.

Now my XP is in english.

again, i dont know if this is the same for Vista, but i can im about 95% sure it should be the same.

The recovery CD OS is in english too.

TaCtiCs: Asus is Taiwanese. So, yes, there are plenty of stores that sell Asus. So is Acer btw, and BenQ.
