    Hey everyone,

After a few months of research (perhaps way too much research), I am considering buying the A8Jr, since it is the closest to my needs.

In reality, I do not need dedicated graphics, but it seems like Asus currently only offers 14 inch notebooks with dedicated graphics. I will only be doing homework and taking notes (maybe some very light gaming). However, battery life is very important (I would like 3.5 to 4 hours).

What do you all think of this choice? and are there any alternatives out there (maybe not even Asus)?

    Thanks!

Oh just a note, I'm in Canada

I think a better card would be either integrated graphics, or a very weak dedicated graphics card, such as a Geforce 7300 or 7200.

The A8J series is not known for its battery life. Even models like the A8JP, which uses the pretty battery-efficient X1700, will only get around 2 hours of battery life.

If battery life is important to you, check out more mainstream laptops like the HP Pavilion dv6000t (with a 12-cell extended battery, you'll get 6 hours), or the Dell Inspiron E1505. I assume your budget is around $1300 US, since you wanted to get the A8JR. Unfortunately, many powerful Asus laptops that still retain excellent battery life (the W3J is a good example), are way out of your price range.

Thanks guys, but unfortunately, (as good as the dv6000t may seem) Canada doesn't offer it.

About the W3J, I thought it was discontinued already.

    anyone have any more suggestions?

Well XliquidiceX, as you know i've got the a8jr... no major complaints here. You know the battery situation, and I would recommend just picking up a 2nd battery... which will give you in total about 5 hours of battery life.
Other then that it is a very solid notebook.
