This may help answer your problem.
    Its taken from ATI's website!

    http://www.ati.com/support/products/pc/laptops/index.html

ATI Mobile Graphics products in notebooks
Display drivers and multimedia applications for notebooks with ATI graphics solutions are available for download from your Notebook manufacturer.

For your convenience, a list of links to notebook manufacturers is available in the ATI Onboard section of our website.
The display driver supplied with a given notebook has been customized for: the built-in flat panel display
any other graphics or video options installed in that specific computer. As a result of these customizations, ATI Customer Care is unable to offer drivers for notebooks.

Here is a link for the latest driver that ASUS has released for the L5GA
    http://www.asus.it/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=L5G
FileName VGA_XP_2K_040130.ZIP Version v6.14.10.6387 Date 2004/01/28 Description ATI M10 VGA driver

ps I assumed that you were tryin to install the latest drivers from ATI! Disregard above if this isnt the case.
Also had a quick look round can't find anything about a patch. I assume you wanna upgrade the drivers to get better performance. At a guess a patched version of the desktop driver is likely to make your system more unstable thus negating any benfit from upgrading the drivers. Also ASUS seems to be doing ok at releasing new drivers, had a quick look at dell and the latest ATI drivers for the 8600 are dec 03. compared to endo Jan 04 for ASUS!
ppss Is there a problem with the display/performace with the drivers that your running? If so maybe give ASUS a call/email. You might be able to get them to release updated drivers quicker!!!
    Good luck

Hey underpantman ur help did help mi out heaps but just to bring u into the picture so u understand why i was after it. ahh with notebooks well asus is the only one i know o that does it but i heard other manufactures do to, have their own drivers for the video card and dont allow any other third party drivers to be installed. at the moment i have absoloutly no issues with the graphics but im thinking of the future when the real directx9b games come out like doom 3 and half life 2 will my notebook be performing up 2 scratch, so the ati catalyst driver can make my notebook perform up to 9% better then what it does now. But thank you heaps for your attampt to help out.

Just to let you know, ASUS have release new drivers for the ATI 9600, NB: these are for the M6N and may not work on the L5GA but if your trying to squeze performace you could give the drivers ago.

    Heres the info and link:

    hey akira7,
you may also want to give omega drivers a try. These are drivers customized to give max performance for your ati card on both notebook and desktop systems.

    Akira7,

When installing the ATI Catalyst drivers, did you use the automated setup process or did you extract out the files to the ATI folder and then manually install? I found that running the setup program would prevent me from installing the ATI drivers onto a notebook with the Mobility Chipset. I "tricked" it into installing by extracting all the files from the downloaded EXE and then going to display properties and telling it to goto the ATI folder to search for the drivers & it worked. I must say, it was faster than the HP drivers that came with the unit when playing Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield.

    Nice trick,
I have just installed the latest omega drivers on my desktop (9600XT)(still saving the dosh for my notebook so this will have to do for now).
These drivers do seem to give a bit better performance than the standard ati when i was playing far cry last nite. I guess I will wait and see if these drivers flog my card to death ! I'm not planning on overclocking at all so hopefully this will be ok will let you know if any probs arise.

No, I had an HP notebook. But it did originally come up with these errors. Did you go all the way down to the last sub-folder? After the files are extracted, there should be at least 3-5 sub-folders, just go to the end.

    Good Luck!
