    Dear All,

My A8SC is acting up on me lately. The mainboard has already been replaced by the support team a year ago. The reason why i sent it in back then was that the computer didnt want to turn on anymore. Even when It was plugged in there was no sign of life. After they replaced the mainboard it worked fine for a year. Now I have the same problem again, I turned it off yesterday and it would not turn on anymore. I unplugged it, took out the battery and waited, tried again and it still would not respond at all. After about 1 hour, I tried again and it magically worked again. Then I turned it off again and had the same problem. It seems like it randomly decides to play dead on me.
Today It wouldnt turn on anymore so I decided to dissasemble it and check it out. While I was taking it apart I tried to turn it on and it worked again. I took out every part, cleaned the dust clogged fan and put it together again. I updated the BIOS and installed windows 7. After shutting it down for 5 minutes it would not turn on again. Now its on and I am trying to keep it on until[ I know what is wrong with it.

I am pretty sure its a hardware problem somwhere but I dont know what could cause it to not turn on. could it be the CMOS battery? the machine works super fine while its on but I am just scared it wont turn on anymore when I shut it down.
If you have technical knowledge about notebook hardware could you give me some advice on what could be wrong with the notebook? to me it seems like it just has a problem with the (kickstart)

    thank you

It would be hard to get to the CMOS battery unless you were prepared to open up the laptop.

But, if you're brave, crack it open and try a new CMOS battery, but I highly, highly doubt that's the problem. While you're in there take a voltage meter and see what the PSU is putting out (if you can get to it).

I also doubt its the CMOS batt. Its weird because the notebook works perfect. When I put it on standby I have no problem turning it on again but just sometimes when I shut it down it won't turn on anymore.

Any other guesses to what could be going on?

your memory may be faulty. you can try testing it and/or replacing it to see if the problem persists.

Does hitting the power button cause the computer to attempt to boot, or does hitting the power button not do anything at all?

If nothing happens at all you might have yourself a faulty button.

Thanks for the memory advice, I will test it but I still doubted that this keeps the computer from responding to the power button.

Rezigrene, nothing happens at all, I really doubted that it is the power button since sometimes it works with no problem at all. Once the comp. is on and I shut it down I can turn it on within 3 secs and it works
