Just wanted to thank everyone on the forums for all the great information here, and for the responses I got when trying to figure out what to buy.

I got my new G1S from ZipZoomFly for $1708 (before mail-ins), it got here yesterday. So far I've been installing stuff and messing around and everything seems great. The G1S feels very solid, quality-wise, much more so than the Dell I'd been using previously.

First thing I did, for curiousity, was DL and run 3dmark06 basic. The first benchmark was a somewhat disappointing 3200. I then uninstalled a bunch of stuff (mostly based on the G1S resources thread) and updated to the 163.44 drivers...that netted me 3900. I'll probably do a clean install at some point to see what I can see.

After that...I installed BioShock. I had a bad moment getting it to run (had to install vcredist to get around a "side-by-side configuration" error) but afterwards...wow. I played through the first couple of levels at 1360x768 (WS) with all the settings maxed out, and it was really smooth. I'll probably see if I can jack up the resolution a bit more, but seems excellent so far.

Anyway...back to installing and playing with stuff. Thanks to everyone! If I have any other comments in my first week, I'll add 'em for others who are considering a buy. :)

Update tidbit: I installed RivaTuner to monitor my GPU temps. Idle is ~77*C.
Gaming temps vary based on the game, from 80*C up through the low 90*'s. Searching the forums, this seems to be in line with what many others are seeing with the G1S, including one post (accidentally closed the window or I'd link - just search on "G1S temp") where someone quoted an email rx'd from Asus saying this was basically fine since Riva monitors core temps on the GPU.

Edit note: When I plug in the power cord, my GPU temps go up ~2*C. Pretty noticeable since in this session, it was at a solid 77*C while I was browsing and plugged in when I noticed the battery was about to run out. Interesting.
