I just though I'd make a thread purely for discussion on the upcoming F8sv. Share your thoughts, news, questions, etc here.
Presumed specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7300 (2.0GHz)
2048MB DDR2 667 (1GB x 2)
14" WSXGA+ (1440x900)
NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT?/GS? DDR2 256MB
160GB 5400RPM SATA
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition

It's 8600GS according to here : http://www.asus.com/news_show.aspx?id=8063
-
Though that may just be the global specs, the N.A. specs are speculated to have the 8600GT after ASUS N.A. pushed ASUS Taiwan to do so, but until more solid evidence comes out, it's assumed to have the 8600GS.
-
I guess we can only hope it's the GT.
-
Well, according to ExcaliberPC's preorder page, it has an 8600GT. Whether this pans out in the production model is something that remains to be seen.
However, if it does ship with an 8600GS, count me out. From the very beginning this notebook has been about the 8600GT GPU, and not a whole lot else. Anything lesser than the 8600GT would be quite disappointing, and a reason just to get a V2S (if you are loaded) or keep looking (if you are like me and can't shell out the cash for the V2s). -
If it isn't the GT I probably won't be buying it either. I'd end up having to get a Dell 1520, unless Zepto started selling in the U.S.
-
All evidence points to it being an 8600GT in the US right? Why is this still a topic of discussion?
[95% chance I didn't read the one source that says it may be an 8600GS.] -
Ken at GenTech PC confirmed it to be the 8600GT. Plus there's already like a hundred threads on this exact same topic.
(Man the ASUS forums have been going ballistic these days with new threads...but I guess that's good advertising)
Either way...the one thing that gets me about the F8Sv is why is it so darn heavy? -
That I am not sure of either, why does it need to be a full half pound heavier than the A8Js?
I think it may be because it has a sturdier build than the A8J, and the extra plastic used adds some weight. It could also be for the cooling for the GPU. However, its still the lightest 8600GT unit on the market (except for the Zepto 6224W, which is in Europe only, and really ugly too). -
I think it'll be awesome if it comes with 8600GT since this is a 14" laptop. Even if it's not GDDR3, it does provide those of us who can't afford laptops like the G1S or those who don't find the 8600GS powerful enough, as an alternative.

Hmm, and now MilestonePC doesn't have a price for it... http://www.milestonepc.com/states/product_info.php?cPath=87_82&products_id=1525

-
Is it DDR2 800 or GDDR3 1400?
-
Milestone doesn't charge until the laptops ship, so I don't think so. Its probably an honest mistake, a typo most likely.
And nobody knows what the VRAM is, but a dealer will probably tell us once they get the notebooks, or I will tell once I get mine. -
-
With its dimentions, F8sv seems to be more like a 15.4inch laptop, except it only has 14.1inch screen. Oh well, it still is smaller than 1520... -

MBP is probably the lightest and thinnest 15" around but you pay for it 2x over again, super thin is not always good eather it means more likley to break IMO, and alot of people (the mac fans mind you) are complaining about the aluminum casing for the MBP saying it lets it get too hot and can be damaged easy.
Thats another thing to take to mind, if its much thinner and lighter, it was probably alot of the cooling properties that were sacrificed to get it that way, not to mention the mbp is a big pain (and expensive) to upgrade simple things like the hdd. -
-
Actually, I wouldn't buy a Zepto 6224W at all, even if there was a US dealer. I mean, cmon, just look at the friggin thing. Its even worse than the old Dells with white bumpers!
And a direct quote from MilestonePC from this thread:
-
^^I acually don't mind the look of the 6224w at all IMO.
I think in another thread that the F8 will be out sometime next month...

Any idea when this laptop will be released internationally, more specifically in NZ and for what price.
