Also Blu-Ray according to this: http://event.asus.com/2008/nb/m_series/

Seems like a decent media desktop replacement. If only it was in the shell of the W2.... ;)

500GBx2 video RAM? Holy jebus. Also, I still think it's another failure on Asus's part to bring out a decent 17" gaming machine.. or maybe it's not meant to be one.

No i think it is meant to be a multimedia laptop hence the m. And every "gaming" laptop they have made have been big successes so they are not technically "failures", no one makes laptops for the fun of it in the end everyone wants to make money.

    M70SA: ATI Mobile Radeon HD3650 with 1G VRAM (500GBx2)
M70SR: ATI Mobile Radeon HD3470 with 256MB VRAM

Little bit surprising that is doesnt come with any nvidia dedicated. Imagine this coming out with a 8800m gtx. Nice...... I'd probably buy that :)

Asus is never likely to release a notebook with something like the 8800 GTX - their chassis designs and cooling aren't designed to handle thermal requirements of that magnitude.

The current trend for Asus is to build gaming notebooks for the mainstream (using mainstream-level parts), business and multimedia machines. The latter is where the entire M5x/7x series falls. They aren't interested in cracking into the niche "gaming" market right now, and this market segment isn't really a huge area of the global economy anyway, which is where their production focus really is (global).

But yeah, oh for the glory days of the W2 .

This is going to be a good gaming machine, but it has alot of multimedia in it too.

I am not intrested in a 17" very much but for 1tb of storage id almost go from 15" to 17" just for that, plus the 17" have more video card options/power.

The M70SA-C1 is SWEET, everything I want in a laptop but the blue-ray I could do without for the 400$ or so it cost extra for it.

How is the GPU, though. 1Gb VRam sounds good but I thought ATI made slow GPU's.
Is it as powerful as the 8800m GTX?

No, the 8800m GTX is more for high end gaming.

This lappy strikes me as a stretch version of the M50Sv with more hard drive space. The GPU is only a little more powerful than the nvidia GPU in the M50.

But will the 3650 be ddr2,3, or 4? ATI has said all 3 memory types will be used in the mobility 3650 so its performance will be very dependant on the memory used.

    Asus M70Sr
Does anyone offer customisation of these in Australia?
Any idea if the firewire they use is the TI IEEE (Texas Instruments) chipset?

I thought this question has been asked twice already (perhaps by you?) and one of the resellers said that ASUS don't use TI controllers on their mainboards...
