I did not seem to be able to find a similar thread, so I thought I might as well post...

I was hoping that there might be one collective thread with info/rumors on the Asus F3SV :)

How or what are people's opinions on Asus's F series? (And could this result in a biased answer due to the foum location? ) I am trying to decide whether this laptop will probably be too good to be true.

This is a partial copy of the faq I posted earlier. The Asus F3SV-A1 seems like a good fit... Am I missing/overlooking anything?

    1) What is your budget?
Preferably around $1,500. Painful, but possible at $1,800. Nothing above $2,000.
    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screend
    d.Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

    3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in.
    U.S.
    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I just want a good solid laptop. I actually would prefer a laptop that won’t scream “EXPENSIVE” as I don’t really want it be made into a target for getting robbed. (University of Cincinnati... Downtown Cincinnati campus... ???) (i.e. Dell XPS or Alienware would be less desirable but still possible…)
    5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Normal computer tasks (e-mail, word processing etc.). Gaming. Possibly photo/video-editing.
    6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
It will probably be on a desk most of the time. I would like to carry it around a wi-fi campus and take notes during class. Due to our high school’s new policy I have gotten used to carrying around several large textbooks all day long without a book bag. Although I should probably check it out first, I am not too afraid of there being a weight issue.
    7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
I want a computer that will play current games decently and play future games on low settings. I have really enjoyed playing older games like Morrowind and Battlefield 1942. Being able to play their newer equivalents, like Oblivion or Battlefied 2 (possibly 2142), would therefore be nice.
    8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Not extraordinarily important, but 1-2 hours would be nice.
    9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
    Online is fine.(Practically preferred)
    10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
    Vista.
    Screen Specifics
    11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
    12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
The screen specifics are not altogether very important. Whatever seems to be a good option for a screen, basically…
    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
    Probably a glossy screen.
    Build Quality and Design
    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Not really…. except that as stated I don’t want one that attracts too much attention in public (unless I allow it to do so :) ). I.E. Plain = Better
    15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
I would really like to have the laptop for the summer (I don’t want to be TOO distracted during college). It probably is REALLY stretching it, but it would be nice if it lasted for 5 years. (or if I could time it out in such a way that I buy 2 decent laptops that would span a period of 5-6 years).
    Notebook Components
    16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 200GB?
Well… obviously more is better, but I am not too much of a stickler on this point. 80 gig would be ok. 120 better. 160 best. :D
    17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
I would like it to be a DVD+-RW burner. I absolutely LOVE the idea of LightScribe.

Basically it is like this: I am going to be going to college for chemical Engineering for the next 5 years (due to the Co-Op schedule… it lengthens the time but provides me with a REAL job during college) and I want a computer that will be able to function decently during the period that I have it. I do NOT need anti-virus or productivity software as the university will provide those at a dirt cheap cost. I don’t think that I even need a OS, as I believe I will be able to get Windows Vista Ultimate from them as well (but some kind of operating system during the summer would be nice…). I would like to have the computer during the summer, but I don’t want to make a dumb decision just for an extra month’s worth of play.

I wish they had put a GT in the F series, That would have made me buy one for sure. I dont want a G1S, but I might be able to stretch my budget to a V1J with the GT

Wait, I think I got it...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=122324

Dang... I searchd for these threads!!! Why did they appear (to me) AFTER I posted??? Oh well...

But the question stands, do you think it will probably be a good fit? (depending on when they are suposed to come out I will probably wait for a review...) I know that the laptop is expected in the next few weeks, so a review would be...??

The GT has 32 pipelines, as opposed to the 16 in the GS(if I remember correctly). Also, wherever I've seen, the clocks are different, and the GT comes with 512MB Vram, while the GS has 256 MB.

The GT has much lower clocks, Which leaves more room for overclocking.
