After hearing a couple people mention it here, I searched all over for information (even simple confirmation) about the Asus F8... but between google, the Asus website (global and N.america) and these forums, the only reference I could find was around four posts on here which all seemed to just reference each other that 'supposedly it should come out in august'.

I've been waiting for news of a decent 14" laptop with dedicated graphics being released for weeks now and the idea was intruging enough to bring me out of over a month's worth of unregistered lurking and actually ask the question. :p

Does anyone have any information at all? I don't care about specifications... I just want some kind of press release or leaked picture or something. If not, I'll just chalk it up to a rumor created from the hunger of people who are apparently as dissatisfied as I am with the current Santa Rosa lineup of 14 inch laptops with respectable graphics cards (or complete and utter lack thereof).

Unfortunately, if there are people that know, the NDA prevents them from speaking about it.

From what I've read from the forums here, it's supposed to be some pseudo 14" gaming notebook like its bigger brother of the G-series. But I'm pretty sure you've read that small tidbit form the forums already, but it seems interesting - Though the fact remains they will have a really large 14" market of notebooks.

Yeah, that's the gist of what I've found around here, but like I said it seems like it could just be some rumor popping up from frustrated people. I'm a bit peeved at just how difficult it is to find something like the Compal HEL30 or Asus W3J or even V2J in the current SR refresh lineup... rock and a hard spot now, really wanting a laptop but also wanting new technology which is taking a frustratingly long time to show up (almost went nuts when I read that the IFT00 has no plans on coming to the US!).

The F8, were it to be a smaller version of the G series, would probably fit the bill nicely. If the G1 had a fingerprint reader and came in a 14 inch chassis I'd order one yesterday. :) I can do without the gaudiness but honestly the pics of the G1 make it seem pretty minor once you turn off the flashing green lights.

No I think the rumor was originally posted by a reseller. I can't remember exactly though.

It would sound like the ideal notebook indeed. Too bad it will proberably never be available in my country (Netherlands) since they never got the A8JS here either.

I am hoping Asus will have a 14" notebook with the 8600M GT.

Hey, I think I found where the rumor might have started... I was browsing and found a quote from ProPortable's thread on their Asus updates.

    --------
    ------

He mentions that there was the first A8 update in May, then that there will be a second one in mid-June for the A8JS. Here is a link to the thread.

it's cool, i finally got irritated and plunked down for a G1. i rationalize that at 6'2" and 180lbs I should be able to transport around a 15.4" without complaining too much. only time will tell!

Are you saying that he was "mostly incorrect" in what he said or that I didn't correctly understand what he said?

I was just trying to point out where the rumor may have started (and maybe, maybe, maybe... give us heart broken souls a glimmer of hope).

I'm thinking I will get the F3SV-B1 if there will not be a A8Js refresh within the next month or two or so... Anyword on a 8600m GT in a A8Js then?

i meant that info was mostly too early and way off. I have no doubt a 14" with 8600 will be released sometime back to school. it may be the a8sv or another model all together.

How much do you think a 14" with 8600 will cost? Do you think this will likely be coming out in late-June? mid-July? August?

This clarifies any doubts that u have.

By any chance, are u hired by a rival notebook company? In other forums and posts, i have seen articles doubting the existence of notebook products, which i think is very underhanded. this is a forum for notebook enthusiasts!!! :p

The original post was made back in May, when the F8 was just a vague rumour.
