I still have the old subwoofer that came with the N550 laptop (not sure if it carried the Zenbook name).

It unfortunately seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird. Not even an Asus monitor (with speakers) supports it. Unfortunate because it really made laptop/monitor speakers punch above their weight and was a better solution than having dedicated speakers taking up more space.

What do we do now without this bass king?
Bluetooth subwoofer? (Doesn't seem to exist).
Bluetooth speaker? (barely better than laptop speakers)
Are we stuck back to needing dedicated speakers?

I am absolutely confused as to what you're asking-

Pretty much stuck with dedicated speakers if you want that kind of bass unfortunately.

Any good small speakers that can hold a candle to laptop speakers + the Asus sub?

Anyone jerryrig the sub on newer laptops / speakers?

Bose bluetooth speakers destroy any notebook speakers in existance.

Budget speakers from Amazon will do that if we're being honest. I don't know what people expect from speakers thin enough to slide into a laptop chassis, but it shouldn't be much.

No, that was the whole point of the subwoofer. You don't need giant speakers for most of the range. The woofer + laptop speakers is not an easy combo to beat, and only at a big cost of space.

Bose is a laughing stock of the audio enthusiast/phile community. Only fools casual users who were only exposed to advertising.

I have one of the best sounding notebooks by far on my table and it doesn't even come close to bose soundlink mini.

    @ Support.3@XOTIC PC
highly doubt cheap china speakers will beat my MSI notebook. You gotta get a little more than small cheap china speakers.

Speakers on notebooks are normally a joke but MSI has been doing a good job on beefing up these speakers so ASUS is a late comer.
However, even when beefed up they are nothing compared against real speakers. Size and material do matter but this is another area of profession.

Not talking about decent speakers such as the Bose mini, talking about cheap china speakers from Amazon.

Obviously the decent speakers are better :)

Are you using any of the good ones such as Bose Mini with your systems? :)

Was thinking of the Logitech ones I had for many years, you can get about the same thing from them on Amazon right now for like $10. They sounded pretty darn nice for something I think I spent $25 on when I bought them, and better than most laptop speakers I've heard. Won't comment on the ones whose brand I don't recognize, those may indeed be pretty bad.

No, the MSI speakers are good enough for me, but I have a friend with the bose minilink, it's defnitely better than my notebook.

None of these other small speakers mentioned, especially not Bose, are anywhere close to the original combo.

There are some pretty nice smallish portable speakers, if that is what you want. You should pick up 2 Minirig Mins, or a Denon Envaya 250 and post a comparison.

If you're really interested, Minirigs are going to have a bit of a sale during Black Friday. I don't have any experience with them, but I am probably going to get a couple as gifts... if I remember. I have the Envya 250, it is pretty great. But the Envya has a little bit of high gain static/white noise if you're really close to it. Might be a deal breaker for some.

I'd mostly be using them in my weight room, so that's likely not a problem. I used to work out with earbuds but now I can only stand them for running. Thanks!
