Interesting...to say the least. I wouldn't say the other companies hate ASUS, as that's a really strong word. They may be opposed to the EEE PC, but I wouldn't say they hate ASUS. They depend on ASUS for so much.
This journalist obviously pushed it further to attract attention.

Great article

What an entertaining article.
But what I don't get is all the hate. The article never mentioned anything on external features or aesthetics. Not every one is going to buy a 7-inch display laptop. I mean the $300 laptop is a great deal for like a birthday or Christmas present but by no means is it as a true multifunctional laptop as Dell, Apple, HP, etc. -
I dont know if its listed in the article, but as of the new year (2008) Asus has split into 3 different companies.
-
May not be a real "full laptop", but Asus is making lots of money that the other companies wish was pouring into their pockets. This article is dripping with sensationalism. Many besides Asus knew there was a market for this sort of PC, they just were brave, went forward with it and its been a nice success and the others are jealous, too bad.

I'd think Microsoft would be more concerned with Canonical and Apple - after all, Dell, for instance, also offers Linux computers. And Asus does offer computers with Windows. Of course, for now Microsoft is strong enough they don't really need to be too concerned with any company.
Apple and Dell are mostly in the mainstream market, anyways - the loss of ultra ultra portables would be a disappointment but by no means the end of the world for them. IDK about Palm.
I'm not a fan of Asus, but this article seems to exaggerate reasons for dislike. Do any of these companies really consider Asus their primary annoyance? Except possibly Palm (which I really don't know anything about), I really don't think that's the case. -
Pfft... most hated company is Google.
The sheer amount of hate pouring out of MS overshadows hate between any other companies.
Asus makes great motherboards. Not sure about their laptops and what not. But their mobos are great. I'll be putting one in my next desktop. -
I wouldnt call their motherboards great, but at least they're better than the average Gigabyte or MSI board... assuming you dont buy one with the blingy heatpipes that leak or mosfet heatsinks that bend the board..

Here, here! We love competition.
I have been using Asus motherboards for over twelve years. I think they know their product so I disagree that they aren't 'great'. -
ASUSTek must be stealing most of their customers. Yea compitition rocks
-
Lol, nice article
I just call it jealousy of the other companies ^^ -
I personally hate CRC the most!! They are the company in the UK that repairs asus stuff and they like to break things and do shoddy repairs!

Here have been my computers
HP pavillion desktop from 2000 - hated it, shot it with a shotgun when it was replaced I hated it so much
Soyo custom build from 2002 - loved it, held a funeral when a power surge killed it
Asus custom build desktop from 2004 - love it, still runs great to this day, is now the family workhorse and runs great.
Asus C90s laptop from August 2007 - I would not be caught dead with any other laptop now.
I can see why Asus is disliked, I don't think I will ever own a dell laptop ever again after seeing just how much my money got me when I went Asus and my Asus custom build has been bulletproof to everything life has been able to throw at it so far. I hope the constant threat of competition keeps Asus producing the finest products because I will enjoy purchasing them. Go Asus! -
My Asus experiences have been nothing but positive. Two motherboards which both still work and I still use one as a main pc running strong.
Didn't even know they made laptops until I came here. Bought my Asus G1P notebook and have had not a problem with it, highly recommend them!
