There might be a few of you who remember eight months ago or so when I came in here and talked about the hell I had to go through after my G71 broke. Now, guess what? My G72 just broke. The same issue: The fan doesn't turn and the motor makes a loud, grinding sound. Now I get to go through this hell all over again.

Is there anyway I can fix this problem without sending it in? It seems like something might be caught it in the fan, like a wire maybe.

Really? Lol.....because we all know that G73 has no problems at all with heating, GSODs, missing keyboard strokes, sound drivers.....!

Heavens forbid, he gets a G73, and that turns out to be a lemon, he'd have to go through the RMA process again.

Frankly, I wouldn't buy / or trade to another G73.

This may have been a false alarm. I brought it to my friend and he opened it up and cleaned out the dust. He couldn't replicate the sound after. He thinks a few dust bunnies may have got stuck in the fan when I tried to use it.

might be an issue.. the ash and dust can be sucked by the fan..

It's making the sound again. If it's just dust build-up, would it come back this fast? I didn't have any problems with the fan for six months.

    I don't smoke.

Edit: Does anyone know if the G72 uses the same fan in the G71? I'm thinking I'll just order a new one. It'll be cheaper than sending it back and having them do it--and being forced to wait two months.

if it was dust/dirt buildup just dusting it out may help keep it from getting worse but once its in the bearings of the fan its pretty much random if cleaning it will get it back to normal.

I have gone through a lot of desktop fans due to dust in my house and I clean them regularly, pretty much once one goes and starts that noise I have to replace it or keep it running to fix it.

I use dust filters now and that helps a lot.

It ran fine again all last night. The fan was blowing fine and everything. This confuses me.
