Yeah, you get your hopes up so high...
And you hope nothing goes wrong to bring them crashing down.

True, because of the nature of high end GPU's in smaller units will result in heat problems.

Basically, the W3j will either be a hit or a miss, either a very good seller, or a complete disaster.

Well it is defiantly coming; it is just a waiting game now. I try not to get to worked up about it, otherwise I will get very upset if its delayed or something (I should not even say that word).

You guys are crazy...... I see your point... but at the same time, I know that at least 1/4 of all the people who put orders in will email me every other day to see if there's an update (thinking I might have something to say that I haven't put on the forum yet).....

Looking at it from your prespective, I'd rather get an email with check boxes that read something like "if you like me too, check yes".... but have it say "are there any updates?"

You probably will anyway, however it is common sense that it is in your best interest to keep everyone informed and updated (I imagine you already have a lot of preorders) therefore if there are any news we would hear it about it here or on the website. Problem is most people forget common sense when they are anxious for something :)

You're right...... the website and this forum serve a lot more people at once and a lot quicker than email does.....

By the way - believe it or not - you've got an email from me I think you should check out.

Wow, I knew people used there notebooks to look at porn, but I never guessed that the notebook itself would satisfy that desire.

I only have two concerns with the W3J:

    1) Heat
    2) Battery life

I want to read a review or two that specifically takes a look at those two issues, then I'll make my final decision.

I was leaning toward a T60 1.83, but there are so many better things about the W3J and it's a better deal for the money.

Same concerns here as well but a 3rd to add.

    3) how long it'll take before the palm rest will fade

For this reason i may go with the V6J

#2 is of no concern to me... With the ability to add a second battery - sweet!

That said, I am going to go V6J due to enough people thinking it is "better built" AND it has the nVidia GPU which <3 Linux more!

The W3J has an aluminum palmrest according to Proportable's page on the W3J. If that is true, then there is not going to be a fading problem.

^ I haven't seen anything to suggest this - I'd be surprised if it wasn't in error.

I woulda thought that it would be the same as the W3. I know the V6 has brushed aluminum wristrest and a magnesium alloy lid, but the W3 does also?

Perhaps it's an error paste from the V6 page? I hope not though, because it would be awesome. I use my V6va everyday for 10+ hours, and the wristrest looks spanking brand new :)

I was skeptical about it at first too but didn't thought Proportable made an error. I just checked their site and it just said it has an " Anodized Brushed Aluminum Lid" now.

the best thing about the w3j is the massive power in such a small form factor

I'm also a bit worried about heat. But is it not possible to underclock the gpu to fix that problem?

I've never done that before but I've read about it and been thinking that's what i'll do if it turns out that the w3j gets too hot. I won't be playing games all the time so i won't be needing the speed all the time.

Indeed it does, but I'm talking about when you are playing Oblivion, or something like that. The fan has gotta go off at max to cool down the bugger!

Heat and battery life shouldn't be an issue on the W3J because the new graphics chipset in that thing actually runs on less power if I am not mistaken so heat should not be an issue.

As for battery life, same as above.

Remember you can't have a QUIET gaming laptop. The fans like coriolis said will go nuts when you are playing a game to cool off the GPU.

Yeah!! W3J likes really cool... But its processor only using Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz in Taiwan... it is only down side I complaint with ASUS Taiwan. Why they don't use Core Duo T2400 1.83GHz just like Proportable :(

Specs are specs, the best thing about the W3 is and always has been the build quality, design and style.

You won't be able to notice performance increases in everyday tasks as easily as you will build quality and overall satisfaction of the product.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I agree. Specially when you continue using it for two, three years ... specs get outdated ... design is forever :)

    Hey!

Just registrered and I wonder if there is a DVI port? If it isn't, is there any docking station that fits W3j that avaibles DVI? I'm probably going to buy the Asus W3j or Zepto 6214W when it's released in april here in Sweden. :)

Im pretty sure that it doesn't have a DVI port, unless the images/specs on ProPortable aren't the latest.

    http://www.proportable.com/detail.aspx?ID=107

And i haven't herd anything about a docking station yet..

No DVI. Doubt it will be PortBar compatiable as well.

Why are so few of the Asus' notebooks PortBar compatible? Is this a cost issue? I don't get it.

By far the best thing about getting the w3j will be me being able to play Oblivion since I bought it and it runs at about 5 fps on my current computer at 640x480 resolution.

Of course, I bought it knowing all of this so it isn't that big of a deal but I did just make my wait to mid April that much worse...

The best thing about w3j for me is going to the weight. I used to carry around IBM T43 which was close to 6lb. and could not play any video games. This wieghts less and I can actually play some games in between classes.

What can I say.... I have been waiting to get a new laptop for over 18 months, and finally found one worthy of passing cash over for.....

Im Just looking forward to getting it, pimping it out with 2GB ram, and extra HDD and battery for the multibay, and sitting back and thrashing it......

Well within reason anyway, I am sure it will kick the pants off my current system! just looking forward to some new kit :D  :D ;)
