It seems like there wasn't much excitement when Chaz first announced the new Asus B51 rugged notebook in the New and Review forum here, so I'd thought I might create a thread in the Asus forum and post info and videos about this notebook here.

On July 2 2008, Asus announced a new ruggedized notebook for the ultimate road-warrior, clearly gain market presence in that niche while trying to compete with the Panasonic's toughbook and Dell's ATG series.

    B51 Specifications
    Intel® Centrino Procesor Technology
    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T8300/T8100/T5850/T5750
Mobile Intel® GM965 Chipset, Intel Int. GMA X3100 Gfx
    Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/4965ABGN Network Connection
    Genuine Windows® Vista Business
    RAM DDR2 667MHz, up to 4GB (2 slots)
SATA HDD up to 320GB & ODD S-Multi
Built-in webcam 1.3M pixel (Optional); Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR (Optional)
    36.5cm (W) x 27.3cm (D) x 3.82 cm (H), 3.1KG (with 8 cell battery)

There's no mention of the screen size or resolution, but from the dimensions, it's most likely a 15 incher.

    Official Asus press release

Undoubtedly, there's no word yet on the release date, but there's a few videos lurking on the internet that showing units being tested in Taiwan.

Overall, this notebook looks quite promising. If only it has the option to house a dedicated GPU and have a 500+ nit screen like Dell's ATG and Panasonic Toughbook, it would make a great addition to the rugged notebook sector. Anyone have any comments on this notebook? ;)

    Nice tests :D
But the ultimate test would be withstanding an airplane trip, stored in a soft bag and checked into cargo baggage. :D

Yea, I'm actually really interested in this notebook and would like to see how battery life is :)
I'm sure it'll survive as a checked-in luggage, but I wouldn't want to risk getting stolen!
