I was looking the new Asus models in the GentechPC page. Is my imagination or my vision? The new computers with better specs costs less than the old models. Is that prices all right?

It depends on whether you are looking a model offerings in the precise same market segment as Asus defines it. While it may appear that there is leapfrogging in their budget to mid-segment, they don't see it that way - plus, Asus NA never drops price on their existing models if they are trying to get rid of them or they are being replaced, they offer a rebate.

Well Moore's law seems to be fitting. Usually new computers with better technology do come a bit cheaper. It's not always the case, but in general statistic wise it is.

Just think, the first computer, ENIAC cost $500,000 in 1946, that's roughly $5703951.00 in 2007 dollars.

I would tend to agree with this. So far, the newest models have all been in the budget or midrange categories. When they start releasing new or updated high-end models with names starting from the end of the alphabet (U, V, W), we'll be able to see how much the average price point has actually changed.

this is why , I never like to spend more than a grand on a laptop.

better get a cheap one not 600 or like that cheap but around 1k and keep changing up as often as you can.

so who cares build quality as seriously as we did in 90th.

that said none of my cheap computers broke in last 7 years, all still running well besides my acer 4920g series models that are already returned.

I have bought only one ASUS for my schoo and I use it there but never had any problem and runing very fast without any bloat craps , one good thing about this brand is the amount of crapwares they put into their lappies.

ClearSkies is right. I saw that Asus is giving rebates for the models with AMD processors, but without droping their prices.

I believe that the old mobile processors will drop in price. But looking in Newegg and comparing the prices the Peryns cost less or same that equals speed/performance old processors from the Core Duo 2 Family.

I agree with the fact that the current ASUS Penryn releases are "mainstream" (non-business) and we'll have more info when V and W models are released.

I don't use the strategy of buying cheap computers often. I'd rather buy an expensive computer at twice the price, that lasts 3 times as long. :) But this is a subjective matter of course.
