I was wondering what is the difference in screen quality in the Matte original UX31 Prime and the newer, black colored gloss touch version ?

I don't really need a touch on a non flip computer, seems strange and bothering ... Then again, if that gloss really adds to the vibrance and quality of the screen I don't mind the extra few bucks on a trade.

Anyone here who swears by the Matte IPS of the original one and will not replace ?

ALSO, OFF TOPIC, can the Intel GPU on these run Diablo 3/counter strike reasonably ?

Usually, a revision of screen may result in a better screen used. It is also possible that it's just a slightly worse screen (glossy surface will always make an OK screen to look nice due to vibrant colors).
You have to put into consideration that a revision may involve the connectivity for touchscreen module as well as screen module, which is one cable extra than the machine without touchscreen function.
If your system already came with IPS but you aren't satisfied with the matte surface, you can find other glossy type of replacement from places like eBay/Amazon, etc. And be sure to look out for spec differences.

The integrated Intel HD graphics is not going to do much at all except the basic net surfing, chatting, video playback.
Some older games may work out ok, but you may find it distasteful with D3/CS.

Also you can have different panels used in the same unit.
