Hi folks.
Im relatively new to these boards and theyre great.
I've been sitting on my can each night after work reading and reading..and reading some more about which will be the bestest most powerful, uber laptop that my meager budget can buy in 2010.
The Clevo/Sager chasis are impressive to say the least.
But i've been sitting here night after night contemplating whether i truly need such a beast.
Im in talks with a very nice person here who will sell me his G60vx(gtx260+P7450 proc)with backlit led kb and all for a very good price..or..
I could simply wait another month or so..and save up more money that i dont have(unemployed but working under the table..sshh..dont tell and also received tax return..woot!)to eventually purchase a barebones Clevo W860CU
which would have a 5870 and i5 520m proc id throw in it.
..but for roughly double the price of the nice and safe little pre-built Asus.
This would be my first laptop so i really dont know how much id use it on a daily basis(truck driver on the road a bit, this is why i justified this in my mind in the first place)besides being my gaming companion on the road it would be nice to have this around the house for the woman and her facebook and for me when i want to sit out on the couch while watching tv.
Oh boy this is getting long, Anyhoo..the geek in me wants a Clevo and to somewhat build it myself and be able to have the option of upgrading later on to some extent but, the sane person in my head tells me "just buy the Asus and you'll be fine..
What shall a hardware geek do?
PS. I do likes me those lit up keyboard keys on the Asus for night use.
Any sane feedback at this point would be appreciated, i think i've been reading these forums obesssing for too long.

The ASUS G 60VX can play just about every game out there, upgrading the CPU will make that much better.I put a T9900 in one and it plays CRYSIS at 30-40FPS.
The lower res screen on the ASUS really helps to.
If you want to save some $$$ go with the G60, if you want the most performance go with the Clevo.
Still if I had a choice I would go with the CLEVO -
Btw... what is your meager budget?
At this scale you seem able to afford an G73Jh of sorts in a while. -
Thx guys.
My budget was $1000 tops but you know how it goes when you start shopping computers.
Id really like to stick with a 15-16' incher, the 17's are higher resolution(i dont want 1080p on my gaming notebook)along with being too big.
I think 1600x900 would be a perfect balance but 1366x768 would be just fine too...i think..im not sure how pleasant surfing the web will be at that rez.
I even looked at the Asus 1201n, great little netbook but the gamer in me wont let me do it.
From the numbers in my head if i went with the w860u Clevo it would be near double the price of a decent used Asus with a gtx260m or something close. -
What about the Asus N61JQ-X1? It carries the price tag you're looking for and the features you seem to be wanting. Sure the 5730 isn't the 5780 but it's much cheaper and delivers decent performance in the price range and display size.

The ASUS G73 has the cleanest design I've seen in a gaming laptop. To me, it beats out any similar Alienware/Clevo/Sager due to the features/values you are getting for what it actually costs.
I absolutely love the heat exhausting out of the rear of the unit. You're also getting the top of the line ATI mobile gpu.
I pre-ordered an A2 model (minus blu-ray) from Amazon. I've researched many similar models from other companies. In my opinion, overall, they don't quite measure up. If I have to wait a month or two then it's no big deal. I may find a better deal during that time.
You have to be satisfied with what you eventually decide to purchase. -
I've owned several "top of the line" and "fastest notebooks one the planet" and one thing I can say with 100% certainty is that they don't remain the top/fastest for long
That's just the fast moving world we live in.
I paid almost 6k for a laptop a couple years ago and it was fast, but that extra 10-20% performance is very expensive. I kept the laptop less than a year and finally sold it (to someone who works for Arnold Schwarzenegger) because I could almost see the dollars flying up in the air as it dropped in value. I also found that SLI was cool, and when it worked well it was nice, but just not for me. So the best single GPU notebook is what I really wanted.
To me it came down to a certain level of performance for a certain price. The G73JH meets both of those. Is it as fast as the best SLI laptop? No, but close enough to make paying double (or quadrouple!) not worth it to me. It also will be close to as fast as my desktop, and quite a bit less in cost. Now that is a first for me!
I'm not trying to talk you out of anything, I just want you to see that spending a bunch of extra money may make it a bit faster, but you have to decide is that extra expense worth it?
Theres something to be said about having the most powerful laptop on the planet..
