Wasnt even the final product, as the show model had no lights on the sides. Inspires me to vinyl mine after painting a solid color though. Also if i remember correctly they unfortunately did NOT move the center led down like in the picture and i think the mock up had the best layout witht he center led farther away from the shield like the G50.

I was wrong on the led placement but....

I think the design depends on the consumer. I like the exotic childish gamer look of the G50s. The G51 is more like a mature gamer look.

Same basic design but much, much better color scheme. Not to crazy about white but it's growing on me.
And the inside of it looks fantastic :D

I like the way it is white from the back and black from the front, makes it look like a super console. I hope we'll be able to choose the colors of the LED this time other than just having the blue light, would be better options. :)

Well myne is white lol, note that in direct console's LED.DLL there are exports for changing led color, so look out there might be a model coming out that can do just that.... doubt it though.

i really think that it looks better than the old g50vt, but compared to the other laptops it still says to the outer world "im a gamer." This is what scares some people off i guess. At the very least its design is more subtle now so i guess thats a step.

Well blame the wonderful society we live in and the importance of outer appearances :D

Asus is kind of funny in that aspect; they want to more or less combat these outer masks we carry and make gamers assert themselves lol :p

I personally think the design is nicer than before, but yes, the logo sitll does scream "gamer" lol :p

I guess before it was ... Lighting shocks/Lots of LEDs + Orange. Now its white (which is subtle kinda like an macbook), semi-rare, and only carries the shieldish logo. A fair upgrade i'd say.

Well there where silver chassis with lighting bolt lids and then black and orange all over, and then the x5 also has a weird paint on part of its chassis as well.

I wouldnt expect white for all.

i guess, but orange certainly was more outstandish. The lighting bolts was probably the destroyer of the silver chassis :D

To Melody: all black seems smexy too. Its acutually what i would want.. The logo then wouldn't really matter.... good suggestion.

To be honest it looks a whole lot cooler then the X5 in my book. I already told Hidavi who likes the X5 lid that i would trade for his all black so i can vinyl it.

Better than the X1 and X5, and worse than my all-black A1, imho. Maybe the white lid is the opening salvos of Asus' war with Apple.

I like the new look, it's got sort of a stormtrooper vibe going on. I also like my G50V-A2 with the orange sides, at first I wasn't crazy about the orange but it grew on me big time. So it's not better or worse for me, just different. The thing that is awesome on the G51 is the rubberized palmrest.

I'm guessing no one knows what it does symbolize, is that the reason I'm not getting the answer for my question? ;)

First it looks like a fish, then it looks like a bird and now it looks like an eye to me.

The logo is spelled ROG but wanted to know if it was really an eye, fish or bird or what else it could've been.

If it's an eye, then an eye it shall be. :)

Yap! or it might symbolize the wings of Pegasus since that's where the name of the company derives from - Peg asus. :)

Pegasus was white and had wings while the G51 is white and has wings. ;)

This is the information you can find on wikipedia:

    Corporate restructuring

As of 3 January 2008, ASUS had started restructuring its operations. The company will split into three distinct operational units:

    1. ASUS
    2. Pegatron
    3. Unihan

The ASUS brand will apply solely to first-party branded computers. Pegatron will handle motherboard and component OEM manufacturing. Unihan will focus on non-PC manufacturing such as cases and molding.

I'm probably in the minority here (judging from the votes so far) but I actually prefer the look of my A2, but then again I like orange lol. Mainly though I prefer the black lid with the dark blue led around the logo. I turned off the silly side lights.

The G50 is black and orange while the G71 is black and red. :)

The previous was a full blown out gamer design, this on is taken a step back externally and pushed forward internally.

My opinion seems to be the opposite of yours since I think this one suits gaming more than the G50/G71 due to the 'console' look of it and is a step to the front in both the inside and the outside of it. :)

The black and orange of the G50 was good looking too. ;)

Dam I voted wrong. I don't like the looks of it, but in the end it's a bit better than the the orange trim. Though I must say, the pure black on the inside (keyboard/display) does not look that good. I would like something more brighter/friendlier, not a black cemetary.
