    This seems way too hot.

So this screenshot was taken about 10 mins after running a full 3dmark.

The max on the gpu as you can see is 92C and it was idling at 70ish (im sure it would drop down after waiting a bit longer). The CPU and GPU are at stock clocks, and the only thing i did was put AS5 on them...i may have put it a little thick on the GPU come to think of it.

The G51 is also sitting on a cooling pad. I cant imagine a reason why it is running so hot.

Sometimes my A1 temps will go quite high while nothings happening then return back to normal. Not sure while this happens. Is the GPU always at 70C? Mine will hang there sometimes then return to about 55C after some time.

Well.... the same happen to me so dont worry too much. I had higher temps with AS5 than with stock paste. But the reasons were,

    1) AS5 takes 200 hours of curing time, although it shoudlnt be more than couple of degrees, but i did see the temps come down some after a week of benchmarks and stress tests.

    2) My G51 GPU Heatsink didnt fully seated, so first time i aplied AS5 i did it very thin, i reached 100C  . But upon opening i saw only half of the heatink was making contact with the paste, so i applied thicker, and it work better (still first day was hoter than stock). Make sure you heatsink is doing full contact on your gpu.

I changed to MX3 seeing a small improvement, but nothing super, AS5 when cure was getting almost the same temps, maybe 1 degree or so better. Much harder to apply though.

Now i would recommend to open and reapply AS5, and check when you lift the gpu sink if the paste was fully doing contact, or if you over did it then do less.

There are other mods some of us doing to drop the temps, from cooper blocks, replacing the fake vent, and undervolting, so there are options, dont worry to much.

BTW what drivers you runing? Nvidia 186.81 had the 2d downcloak issue for some, im runing NVIDIA GeForce v186.82 WHQL with no problem at idle and got 300points more on 3dmark06.

wow, this place is fast on gettin replies haha. Well, if this is OK, then what should i be looking at for max?

Also, im running the 186.81 driver.

Actually, im trying to go really slow on mods on this one. I just returned my first one after bricking the GPU lol. Luckily BB didnt look at the bottom to see the fan grill i had cut out and installed, i also had done AS on that one as well as aluminum heatsinks (temp till i had gotten the copper ones). Where i think i screwed up on tho, was taking off all those soft foamy thermal pads from the heatsink that sit on the GPU ram...im pretty sure thats what fried it.

So this one im going slow, one at a time starting with the paste. Its just that my last one never got this hot so i was concerned. Although, the last one only got a 4.9 bone stock on the windows experience index, and this one scored a 5.5...factory freak? lol.

im not finding this 186.82 driver n e where.

I posted the link so you could dl, but if it didnt work. Here you again NVIDIA GeForce v186.82 WHQL, scroll down in the first post click the x64 version, just dl, extract and run setup. Remember uninstall your old drivers and run driversweeper.

I dont hit 90Cs with 3dmark06, i do with furmark though, all stock settings. But really depends on other factors like ambient temp, cooler, etc.

Check if you properly applied the paste and if the heatsink is fully seated.

OK, my G50VT I was getting up to 95C with AS5 when gaming. I've only had it a couple months and it already had a lot of dust in it. If your getting high temps just double check to make sure there's no dust build up. You wont need any compressed air and such, just pop the hood and use your mouth pressed against the outside vent and blow a strong puff of air into it and you may see a cloud of dust fly out. I did this three times (with 3 noticeable "dust clouds") and temps have dropped by 10-15C.

P.S. My room isn't that dusty.

well ill check to see if it is seated correctly, tho i cannot see how it could be off. It seemed the thing would have to be perfect for the 2 screws to line up.

I dont think its dust either, i just got the machine on wednesday.

The heatsink over the GPU die can occasionally be uneven in itself- so whether or not it fits over the screws would irrelevant.

I did the same with my mouth :p and it worked fine:
Have your laptop sit on a cooler, then you won't have a dusty inside :p Last time i checked my laptops, T60(no cooler) was full of dust, nothing at all in G50(always on a cooler), felt like anew!!
