    ASUS Eee (final?) specs

On ASUS's Eee site, the specs have been updated and there are four models to choose from, mainly the RAM and HD space that are the difference. No information is present on the CPU.

On the 16th of October, the Eee is officially released in Taiwan - potentially it may also be the day that the 'NDA' that dealers and resellers have is lifted. With news of large retailers such as Best Buy to carry the Eee, this is of most interesting news, especially how it will roll out. Will ASUS require a marketing ploy or will these units sell themselves?

10" Eee canceled due to competition?

Though with no confirmation from ASUS, there has been speculation that the larger 10" Eee will be scrapped due to the size category it belongs to.

ODM's to follow Apple's 'footsteps' of the iPhone

With all the hype around the iPhone(Though it's not really much of a 'revolution' as it has been called), many manufacturers and ODMs such as ASUS are making some noise of their own.

ASUS already had a concept phone design released last February, and they've been in the mobile phone business for a few years already(little known fact!), as well as in the PDA market too.

That mobile phone concept looks a lot more like a slimmed down OQO than an iPhone rip-off. I like it though, very nice looking.

I'm actually looking forward to Asus' R3 MID. Thats a really sweet device, and at $500, an instant buy from me.

I can't say that I was tempted to buy it (because of the increased price), but I did like the design more than the 7" one. The 10" actually looked like a real notebook, kinda reminded me of a smaller V6 gone widescreen. A pity that it was axed, but it would have ended up at $600-700, far from the original $200-400 price point.

I really liked the 10" Eee when it was announced, the design was nice, and I would rather opt for a 10" rather then a 7".

If it was to be released along with the Eee 701(Name discontinued btw, it's now the Eee PC 2gb/4gb/4gb Surf/2gb Surf) with current specs like:

    Pentium M ULV 1.2ghz
    10" WXGA
    Under 3lbs
    1gb RAM
    8gb SSD
    40gb 1.8" 4200rpm HD
    Linux/XP
6 cell(shouldn't stick out but a 4 cell should not for sure)

    $750~$800

    Why not? :p

What is the Surf? Does that mean that those are the only two with wifi?

Surf is the low end versions, no webcam, lower rated battery, RAM and HD, and slightly lowered price. It's more of a pick up and surf anywhere type of notebook(UMPC?), instead of the others with more HD and RAM which is the....uhhh..slightly powerful and usable ones?

    Not yet :/

Maybe I missed it, but what does the "V" represent in the spec chart?

I believe it just means if the feature is present or not.
