    Selling(sold?) like hotcakes in Taiwan

Though a far ways away from the supposedly $200 price point, it didn't stop the curious from picking one up. After all, it's just a few hundred dollars. The $200 will be avaliable, if purchased in bulk.

    ASUS U1e details arrive

A nice big bump in specs, especially the RAM, with 1gb soldered on compared to the 512mb in the previous model. In addition, the Intel x3100, while integrated, is a large leap above the GMA950. Hopefully the battery life did not faulter from the average battery life from the U1f.

ASUS U6 reviewed by CNet UK

CNet reviews the ASUS U6, giving it a highly recommended 8.8/10 score, with the only downfall being the battery life, 90 minutes on the 6 cell while on a stress test. This leather plaid notebook, at under 2.2kg is a 12.1" with a powerful T7500 processor, HDMI, 8400G graphics, looks as sleek as it can get. Thanks to Smoking for the post!

i know!? 90 min on an extended battery? and only 40 on a reg battery?

    i mean come on!

i mean its a beautiful laptop, but my sony sz, which is about 1 inch thick, 3.9 pounds, etc can get 4 hours - and thats a 13", not a 12!

perhaps, at a normal rate and not high cpu usage, the normal battery can get hopefully 1 1/2 hours - still quite bad, and maybe the extended battery can reach 3-4, but i dont know how much the battery eater program is different then reg usage so no idea

    I'm pretty sure it's a 9-cell, not a 6-cell. 6-cell would only be 5200mAh.

Guys its a stress test. They put it under intense cpu load. All/most of the battery tests you have seen are under light load with half or low brightness. Don't think cnet even mentions what brightness they have done it on.

*sigh, another Asus with pathetic battery life. I know it was a stress test, but 40 minutes on the standard battery (90 on the extended, yes, I know) is still pretty pathetic.

No, the cpu is the main hog of battery life. Try your laptop with the cpu under complete stress and see how much less it lasts. They also don't define this stress test of theirs which might use the HD and cause even further less battery life.

I agree with Forerunner. My V6J eats around 22 W on idle. With both CPU cores stressed with Intel Thermal Analysis Tool, it eats 50 to 55W. That's more than double.

Keep in mind though that keeping the CPU at max speed, and fully using the CPU at max speed (like IntelTAT does) are two very different things. Power consumption will be smaller in the first case. So yes, cnet should state exactly what their stress program does. But then, they aren't known for accuracy in their reviews.

So you can expect the idle battery life to be anywhere between 1.5 and 2.5 larger than that reported by cnet...

On another note: I find the color scheme of the U6 tasteless. That black and white looks bad.

About the Eeee... (however many Es are in there)... in my view it's just a useless gadget if you already have a laptop. I know it's relatively cheap, but buying something just because it's cheap is... not such a good thing to do. Better get a present for someone, or something.
