Now, it's important for us to keep customers information private but it's no secret that these guys are big fans of all things tech and were some of the first adopters of the W3's. Last night we got to deliver a W2 and were met with oooh's and ahhhh's as the lid opened.....
The show was awesome and it was great to finally meet and chill backstage with Brian, Scott, Pat, Rivers, Stuart and Karl... and not to mention Chris and Dave too. These guys treated some PROPortable staff to two great rock shows and I must say... great parking (next to the tour buses - 20 yards from the stage), great seats (if you call standing a couple feet off stage, seats) and great refreshments (better than the $8 beers and $4 pretzels at the stands)...... ah, living the life.
Here are a "couple" shots our creative director Tom shot. He even had to go up into the stands just to get more of an area in some of the shots:

Hey, one of my favorite bands. Weezer rules! So how much for the signed laptop?
-
PROPortable Company Representative
Haha... not for sale. My one little hobby is getting high profile clients to sign lids of the notebooks they have and then framing them.... If I knew about the concert more than a couple days ahead of time it would have been a totally awesome thing to run a contest for or something. That is if they didn't have a problem with it, which they very well might have....... but the concert was probably the best I've ever been too and probably just as cool to go and meet fellow Asus owners as it would have been to win a computer.

that...is...badass!

We loved the show and must say both bands absolutely rocked. Being guests of the band and getting treated like a rock star was simply an great bonus. One thing that was odd was this show was the first show River's father ever attended (thats in 12-13+ years) and he even had time for us during what I'm sure was a very emotional evening for him. What rocked even more was that when we introduced ourselves to the guys they almost seemed more pumped about meeting us. They quickly introduced us to their wives/girlfriends as "the guys who built their awesome notebooks"..... It's quite a weird feeling even though I've been taking care of these guys for six months or so.... They're just totally chill.
-
Justin i just saw that show the other day here in CT it was awsome i have to say i think weezer sounded alot better than FOO Fighters. how many signed notebooks do you have from over the years?
-
Oooohhh weee ooohhh, I look just like Buddy Holly,
Oh-Oh, and you're Mary Tyler Moore,
Weezer fan here as well -
PROPortable Company Representative
Oh yeah they played like tuesday up there right? I agree, weezer sounds awesome but the foo put on an excellent show as well.... I think it they were more about being loud and having deep bass though.... I'm guessing that's exactly what you're talking about too...
Ummmmm.... in the last two years (thats about as long as we've been on anyone's minds)... I've got like 5..... another 2 are hopefully coming when I get a chance to meet up with some old clients out in california in the next couple months.... They're sort of like my badges of honor.... everyone who I've ever gotten to sign a laptop actually bought one and loved it.... and every one of them asked if I really wanted them to mark up such a beautiful lid! It's just a hobby... I don't even have all of them framed yet but that's my goal... they look hot up on the wall. -
Of course, can't forget the Foo!
Mmmm, i gotta find my CD, want to listen to Everlong again -
Thats exactly what i meant justin foo fighters were more about the show i guess being flashy screaming alittle to much though not that i dont listen to hard stuff but some of those foo fighter songs just needed to be a bit more mellow like on the album. Just curious justin how old of a guy are you that you listen to foo fighters and weezer just curious cause i always figured you would be in the mid 40s not that i can tell from online.

I think Weezer did a cover of Big Me towards the end of their set and it was really good...... Say it Ain't so and My Name is Jonas were awesome live and Everlong and Best of You were as well..... I know it's a real shame, but I missed part of Best of You... We were chillin backstage and helping Brian with his W3 and hear it start... I was torn!
-
Justin is in his mid 20's if I recall correctly, Hmmm where was that Swedish Article about him?

I come off like mid 40's... ****... Just turned 25 last month. I'm not going to lie and say I was a huge fan of either of them because I wasn't... I've obviously listened to their music for the last ten years and liked it but never went to a concert or bought their cds.... After the concert I was just amazed to relive moments through juniorhigh, highschool and college that I link to a LOT of their songs...
Plus, there's so much history between the two bands.... I mean all of us should remember the coolest new thing to Windows 95 was being able to play video - and the buddy holly video was included in the extras on the cd (anyone who can tell me they didn't play that over and over both for the song and just because they were amazed to be watching video on their computer - would be lying)..... and Dave... I mean jez... the drummer for Nirvana.... and pet projects like queens of the stone age and like a dozen more... where would this world be today without Smells like Teen Spirit? ..... New Kids on the Block would still be around. -
LOL i completely forgot about the buddy holly video on win95 i did play that a million times. I only guessed you were older because you seem to have a good company with great customer service which you dont see to much of from someone as young as you good work. well im only 26 not like im really your elder or anything.
-
HAHAHA, OMG. i thought i was the only one that played that video like a zillion times! I was doing it on a 486 DX2 66MHz with a whopping 16mb of RAM, Soundblaster 16, and 340mb hard drive too! It was quite extraordinary (plus the song was very catchy!). Can you believe that was 10 years ago, ****! Believe it or not, I still have that computer and it's still running windows95 with a remote desktop client to a wireless machine downstairs that hosts it as a terminal (basically runs as a workstation and terminal server), so it's fully functional and basically running Windows XP Pro SP2 very fast) and in fact being used by my sister right now. My new z70va will be my 19th computer since that sucker!! I sold all of them, but kept the 486 for so long because it became unsellable. And since everyone seems to be telling their age, I'm 22.

Did I tell you or what? I guarentee that video on that win95 disc was probably the BEST and WORST thing to ever happen to them... what do you think?
I appreciate the kind words.... I guess the reason you thought I was older was a compliment.... What's weird is all the guys in Weezer are between 37 and 41... -
Hey justin i sent u a private message on this forum so check it dont worry nothing perverted just something about private message sounds it lol.
-
SRD - you are thinking too much

Yeah I hear you.. private message seems dirty.... like why is it private and no one else can hear..... I responded to it... for future reference I hate those things and that's why my email is still in my sig.
-
wow, you seem to be in the business for a long time, became Asus' premier partner..and you're the same age as I! All this time I thought you were in your mid 30s.
-

I guess that's a compliment... we started this business while I was in college and before finishing undergrad this was a full time job for me and some others..... through grad school it was almost impossible to divide my time as I was putting in almost 65 hours a week into proportable..... we should totally get a list of people's ages.... if only to better understand the type of people we're dealing with. My talking to a lot of you guys on the phone I know just the people I've talked to from this forum range in age from at least 15 to 65.
-
^lol it's a compliment, and a bit of envy on my side seeing some one so successful
I'm really interested in hearing the history of your company if you have time.
-
Justin would you say that most your clients seem to be in the 20's to early 30's seems that the only people that buy asus laptops are pc gurus.Other than ages im more curious what everyone does for a living i mean do more people in some sort of tech field buy asus? I guess ill start former network specialist/engineer current bagel shop owner and technology company owner home theatres networks smart homes. Justin Off topic any news on the w6a justin the 13.in

Well obviously on a privacy issue, I couldn't say the do this and they to that.... but on a whole I can say that (believe it or not), the same range of people we see on the forum, we see as customers.... and they're certainly not all coming from the forum. After all the years we've been doing this, we have a LOT of word of mouth referrals. Our referral program works extremely well (except here through NBR members) and we get lines of referrals that are like 5-6-7 degrees long and I've tracked them around the globe. That means from the original customer, they took it to college and someone there liked it and bought from us and then they took it to study abroad and someone in italy saw it and ordered one and then they took it home and a family member bought one... and so on.
You'd be surprised as how tech savy some people are and at the same time after this much time in this business, over the past year and a half we've been getting plenty of people who've never even touched a computer but their boyfriend or grandson or someone told them they HAVE to get an Asus.
About the W6a - Last I knew Asus NA was under a lot of pressure to bring it in ASAP, but they didn't want to bring in any new notebooks till the end of January when the dual-core pentium-m's come out........ so Asus NA want's to wait, while Global wants to push them. The NA office has the last word because if they don't pay for them, Taiwan certainly won't ship them here. I think everything's going to be waiting till next year. -
Come on justin order me a barebones of it from Taiwan ill put it together myself. is it possible for u to do that?
-
framing? use it, no need to put to waste on the wall!
-
PROPortable Company Representative
I swap the lids.... I don't put an entire computer on the wall... man
-
So is there any way to order barebone asus models from over seas from online?
-
PROPortable Company Representative
I wouldn't want to even if it was possible.... something like that couldn't be warranted through the US office because they don't have the model.... so parts and stuff like that would take a long time or you'd have to send it back to whereever you got it........ Mix that with the cost of shipping and importing and you'd be better off to just wait on it.
-
also, u'd have to be pretty fluent in chinese/taiwanese to communicate what it is u want. i was in taiwan over the summer and i couldnt find anyplace that sold barebone asus laptops, tons of places selling ensemble pieces tho.
-
PROPortable Company Representative
Well that's because that's mainly what Asus sells.... they've only opened up availability of whitebooks in certain countries.
Thought you guys would get a kick out of this...
