To anyone interested:
Last year saw the use of three different major brand dvd burners in Asus laptops..... Namely a 2x -RW by Toshiba, a 4x Dual Format by Panasonic and an 8x Dual Layer by Pioneer.....
So far this year all of the new systems have used the newest 8x Dual Layer by Toshiba/Samsung. The lastest shipment of Z70 series and Z63 series 8x Dual Layer drives are actually now Panasonic. The specs are all the same, but there are some people do prefer one brand over another. So those who have been putting off the ordering, this really just serves as an announcement to you....
Thanks,
Justin

Hi Justin,
Thanks for the news. Do you know the exact model number of the Panasonic drive? (gotsta do my background research)
EDIT: Is the drive a slot-load? If it is, then its probably the Panasonic UJ-845-B. Its looking like it gets wayyy more favorable reviews than the Toshiba/Samsung did, and did i mention... SLOT LOAD! [][

Definitely waiting for your reply.
Thanks,

Hi,
I think that my W3V has the new drive, it is a UJ-831D. It is not a slot loading drive.
Thanks

They're UJ-831B ... it's tray load....
Sometime within the last month they switched over because Toshiba couldn't keep up with demand.... One reason why a dvd drive normally wouldn't get mentioned by model or make is because those things could change weekly or by region...... I just wanted to let people know that for now... we've seen some Panasonic's start to come back.... That means that now there are toshiba and panasonic faceplates for the w3 series, z70 series... etc.... makes it easier if someone is trying to get another drive from either company for use on one of those systems.
Thanks,
Justin
