I'm hoping for a little more help. I was all set to order the G51j-A1 however it just hasn't been available. I went to BB and they have the G60vx-Rbbx05 right in stock and show the x09 model avail to ship online. The G60 seemed like a sweet machine, costs much less and is avail either for pickup or I could just grab the upgraded model online. The warranty from BB is of course no where near as good which I need to consider. I also understand the screen resolution is higher on the G51j. I also understand you only get one harddrive on the 05 model. What I'd like to know is does the screen resoultion really make a difference? If not, is it worth spending the $200 more for the 09 model of the G60vx? Should I just be patient and wait a little longer foe the G51j? Sorry to be a pain, I just want a laptop and don't want to have to wait forever and then find out I should have just saved money and had it now.

has the higher resolution of the G51j, faster processor of the RX09. oh and it has the much better Asus warranty, bluetooth, and a better webcam. (in comparison with the G60) -
Well as far as screen resolution is concerned I have the 1920x1080 on my g51vx. In games I don't use the full res. I usually play at 1280x720 or 1366x768 so I can have a very smooth 60 fps and above. Just my preference. Only older games like COD UO or Battlefield vietnam or even sports games I will use full res but lower still looks good with AA.
For normal things like using windows, web surfing and making graphics I'm usually in a higher res like 1600x900 and above. Just switched to 1366x768 in this site and its not bad. I just it depends what your needs are but I just wanted to mention that If you get the g60vx with 1366x768 (i believe) It will be fine for gaming. I can't run newer games or very demanding games in full 1080p anyway but then again I'm very picky. Got to have that glass smooth gameplay -
for me, I like gaming on native resolution.
MW2 looks very nice on 1920x1080 and the gameplay is smooth. I just turn off AA.
I would say get g51j. I like watching HD movies on this machine. It looks pretty nice at full 1080. -

I was kind of wondering the same thing....should I order the G51VX-X3A because I know it's in stock or wait for the G51J-A1. Well I decided I would be kicking myself in the rear if I didn't get the G51J with the i7 cpu. So I went ahead and ordered it today from newegg. Although....zipzoomfly is selling it for $1409 right now if you want to go that route...it's on backorder there too though. I went with the egg because of my credit line there with 0% interest for 12 months.

Having the exact same debate here!
Saw the G60 at Best buy and that is what go tme thinking about an Asus to begine with...I woudl prob go with teh 09 online vs the 05 at BB though.
Is it the new i7 G51aj that people are having difficulty with the "Grey Soup" and heating problems or the older G51 models!?

SO...Which TO choose!? -
That is a tough choice. I think it depends a lot on what your going to use it for mostly and what you can afford. I believe the i7 will run faster for dual core applications and definitely single core apps.
1366x768 compared to 1920x1080 is quite a leap. I needed the space for software I run so 1080 was better. It is hard decision and I know because this is exactly where I was a couple of months before. Finally went for a G51Vx-A1 and I'm real happy.
I think the G51j has the same LCD screen so yea, grey soup. It's not always so bad though. If things are bright on the screen its just fine (like this forum). Dark's are a bit problematic but I'm getting used to it. Wish it was better but hey, not a bad price for what your getting overall.
As far as heat goes I'm quite sure they use the same cooling system primarily, so it runs a little hot. This is one reason I don't use the full 1080p in games. I stay with 720p mostly unless it a few years old or it just doesn't ask much from the cpu/gpu. 720p with some AA looks fine to me and better fps and cooler too. -

By all indications, the G51J's AUO screen sucks. I don't doubt it, after owning previous AUOs... those displays are pure garbage.
My G60Vx's HannStarr is pretty good for a Laptop display. -

do you guys have the bsod problem that alot of g51j users have?
-
-
Those guys are amazing. Justin has been great in my order and they are out of stock but they told me a 2 week ship date at the time being. Make sure you get the thermal compound on the CPU and GPU. I got my system with all standard specs + thermal compound + cooling base (2 fans) for $1525. -
I went with the egg because of my credit line there with 0% interest for 12 months.

i like the name "largefarva". Anywho some people don't have credit to do that type of program hence my suggestion. Congratulations on the laptop though! I hope the BSOD problem going on in the thread below us gets fixed!
