I know im kind of posting in the wrong place, but thought you guys maybe can give me some much appreciated advice.
Toshiba's new lappy m100 seems like a really decent machine. It has a remote come with it and plays music and movies without booting windows.
The only thing that pales in comparison to w3f is the graphic card, but ati1400 is not too bad, enough for medium gaming and plus, because w3f has lots of high-end components i don't even need, m100 is much cheaper to me since i can configure it. The only thing that concerns me is its lack of removable module thing. because 3 hours of battery life is a little short for me. With the flexible module, i can add an additional battery. But then i can buy an additional 9 cell or 12 cell battery.
what do u guys think?

I wouldnt get it myself. I played with one prior to getting my Z83V and the build on it is very poor. Creaky hinge, over springy, flexy keyboard, cheap plastics. Toshiba isnt the best when it comes to build quality, not even close. In fact i would rate them at the bottom.
-
Toshiba is pretty much **** when it comes to built quality. I even think their quismo high lappys are **** keyboard on that thing is like an avertec which isnt saying much. if you want that remote and stuff get an HP over toshiba at least some on them are decently put together.
-
Another thing to consider is the ports that come with the m100. I almost got one, but when I realized it didn't have the new Express slot, I had second thoughts. I realized that I have to compare more than just the video card and processor! Gotta look at the rest of the specs, too.

Well, as biased as you want it to sound, posting here and posting in other forums will wield different results usually.
I'd move it, but you knew the outcome beforehand so...
-
I dont think im biased towards asus. I like alot of differents brands for different reasons.
-
I wasn't meaning you
I mean any replies that will be posted here, it's going to be biased in most cases -
We have a couple of toshibas in one of the suites here at work and they aren't impressive in the least. Build quality is so-so (screen hinge, anybody?) and they'll get pretty hot at times when crunching out a plan, but that may not be a fair comparison to today's processors.
The swappable bays are a nice feature of the ASUS line. -

there is only one reason why Toshiba sells and that is because its cheap for what you get and you can find it in just about every retail chain.
IMO, toshiba is the most over rated laptop manufacturer. I dont even know how they are still making laptops today. My college uses toshibas as their model provided to their students, and every single person I know who owned one hated it. Mobos constantly going out for no reason, overheating problems, hinges breaking, faulty lens on DVD drives, power jacks snapping off, list goes on and on.
Ive used 3 toshibas prior to getting ASUS and that is why I left toshiba, for the cheap build quality and non stop troubles.
And yes SRD is right, they have the worst keyboards ever. As much spring in them as an angel food cake. Try every toshiba you can, I gaurentee you every single one will have at least the arrow keys being loose. Super cheap parts. Its almost like they didnt put it together properly. -
IM saying if you want to save money HP far better than toshiba. i have a compaq that has been tossed around for 2 years that runs great not even a scratch. their cases are built pretty decent. Their screens are nice and bright.

Depends on the model. Ive typed on some HPs, that felt like I was tapping a tin can when touching the keys.
Toshibas are either a hit or loss. They come out with one decent model, the next two are failures and so on.
You get one, the hinge might be super creaky, get another one the power jack will be loose, get another the keyboard might be too flexy. -
HPS keyboards are only soso. But the case build is ok they will last.

I've had pretty bad experiences with Toshiba also, like everyones said a millio ntimes before, their build quality is horrible, but the main thing that got me was the screen hinges...the ones on mine would be so loose that if i nudged the laptop a bit my laptop would slowly close itself...horrible.

Dell: High=Latitude, Low=Inspiron
Toshiba: High=Tecra, Low=Satellite
Lenovo: High=Thinkpad, Low=3000 Family
etc.
Thus, when some people spend 1,489 hours bagging on a company because they think their products suck and are cheap, it might be because they've only had experience with the low end models. The opinions that should be taken with the most weight are those that come from people who are familiar with both the high and low end models. For example, my friend thinks Dell Inspirons are trash, yet he swears by Dell Latitudes. Thus, I'll take his opinion seriously (though I'm still leaning towards an Asus, assuming they don't wait until the next decade to release the W3J). Just make sure you do your research thoroughly. -

Toshiba is a great company, dont get me wrong...just NOT for laptops. If I was given a toshiba for FREE right now, I would trash it and smash it with a hammer. I wouldnt even sell it. Thats how much I hate toshibas.

::Note to self... avoid Toshiba's::

Seriously, I would rather trust Averatec, or Funaki whatever they are called than Toshiba. -

I had a Toshiba S305 Satellite and the hinges cracked multiple times on both sides of which I had to super glue back together with limited success and the screen would go blank for no apparent reason if moved around too much when opened. I also had to use velcro straps around the DVD drive to make it read DVD's since I got tired of pushing it in and holding it closed. People would continously ask me, "Hey, what are those velco straps for?" Any questions? LOL

Wow, u guys are great, i didn't reallly expect so many responses in such a short time. Thanks so much for those cautions.
As some of u said, i seriously considered Hp, i actually checked dv1000t in a OfficeDepot store, and thought it's the sexiest in the world, but its lack of a graphic card turns me off totally. Oh and the swappable bay, that's one of the best notebook innovations out there. don't know why some companies don't take advantage of it?? Cuz they are afraid of getting sued? Cmon, it's totally freee. FUnny how sometimes some companies try every means to steal technologies, sometimes it's right in front of them free of charge, they don't utilize them. -

Cant speak for toshibas laptop quality. I have never seen one that impressed me but i dont see them often. Most of the lappies i see are dell and the rest. Only one dell impressed me thus far. It was a 12" model. The rest just look awfull and feel even worse. I can speak of toshi drives. if you bough their hard drive last year and it was a 5400rpm model you have probably atleast a 30% chance of rma just in the first year. if you have to rma it direct to toshiba meaning you bought it as a part by itself expect a two month turn around. Horrible quality, horrible rma, and even worse support for diagnostics. Toshi exists only becuase of its brand name not quality. We have their drives rma in the hundreds now just from a few months of selling their hard drives, i will never ever recommend their product just becuase of my bad exprience which now numbers in the hundred

btw toshiba harddrives rma covers probably 90% of all our drive rma in the last 1 year but account maybee for 3% of all (wd, seagate, samsung, hitachi, fujitsu which is our most popular by far) drives sold. That includes desktop drives as well not just notebook drives with notebook drives being far more reliable and least likely to break atleast for us. I dont keep actuall records on this but if a customer calls in and i see e has a toshi drive in there odds are that is what is broken.. Worst mistake we ever made was to pick up their product. Hope now a days they got their act together because i know they had extremely bad quality over a years course.

I used to like Toshiba's - they seemed pretty reliable and user-friendly and had quite a few gadgets with them as well (on the higher-end models). I used to own a Satellite (5105-S607) and I must say, their HDs absolutely SUCK! I had to replace my Satellite with my E1705 because the HD *exploded*, yes, exploded. Sounds bizarre, I know, but it screwed my touchpad and messed up part of my MOBO. I still think Toshiba's notebooks are O.K. (barring the low-end ones), but AVOID their HDs AT ALL COSTS!!!

toshiba not only makes the worst hd's but just laptops period. If i were you i would have taken a hammer to the demo one you seen in store. toshiba makes me sick to my stomach.

lol i cant say i disagree. I have yet to see a single decent laptop from them. Most of them are heavy oversized plastiky and just nasty looking
-
Learning_ASUS Notebook Consultant
^ not just that, but who wants a fruit flavoured lid? And theyre all silver inside, cheap plasticky fake junk.
Their service aint that much better, in fact they blow. -
I know this is an old thread, but I almost considered getting the M100 over A8JM. Thanks for waking me up!
Toshiba m100 worth buying???
