I'll admit I was a little apprehensive about buying a laptop without seeing it in person, but I couldn't be happier.

Using NHC to undervolt and the custom dynamic switching CPU speed, and doing light homework/e-mail, my CPU temps stay ~40C. The fan defaults to coming on at 45C, so most of the time I'm looking at a totally silent system. My old laptop (Toshiba Satilite 1805) had a dust buster fan that wouldn't stay off even at the slowest CPU stepping on battery power... I'd sit in the quiet section of the library and the fan would sit there and go 'whheeeeee' all the time. No more!

On the other hand, I've already fired up MATLAB for some engineering homework several times, and the top end power is exactly what I expected. When the fan does kick in under load it's very quiet.

Build quality is completely solid. Battery life is as quoted, ~2.5 hours off the stock battery and ~7.5 off the extended battery, with wireless, decent screen brightness, and NHCs 'Max Battery' profile.

    Thanks all!

Glad you?re happy with your Z33ae.

I've had my Z33a since last June and overall I've been happy. I think next time I buy a notebook I'll get something that is a bit more of an all-in-one, but nothing can compare to the size/weight of this.

Although my DVD drive needed to be replaced (since it stopped reading dvds) and my Audio out jack somehow got blown. Everything was fixed by my reseller through Asus.

The only thing I wish know is I could get a 1gb stick of Micro-DDR2..Infinon said they were shipping it Q2/Q3 2005, but I have yet to see it anywhere. Luckily yours has 512mb built-in, something Asus should have done originally..

Are you Z33A and Z33ae-types still happy with your notebooks? What are the downsides of owning a 12? Thanks.
