Sometimes I'm in situations where I'm forced to use my touchpad over a mouse. At these times I miss the extra buttons found on my mouse. I also cringe at how comparatively awkward it is to perform touchpad + keyboard actions.
In the past I've used notebook touchpads with nifty driver software which had a bit of a workaround for the device's inherent limitations. They were able to sense a two or three finger tap on the touchpad which could be used to emulate extra buttons found on a mouse. I've found this method quite accurate and a great solution.
Is there any way to get that functionality on my z70va? The Synaptics touchpad software has options for "tap zones" (creating specialized functions for single-taps in designated corners of the touchpad). However, it's not very reliable.
Is there alternative touchpad software which will work on my Asus? Has anyone tried different drivers with any degree of success?

Im not possitive but i think your stuck with the synaptics drivers. Did you used to use an ALPS touchpad before?

My Toshiba has those stupid tap zones too... I can never get them to work when I want them to, but they occasionallly kick in just when it's least convenient. Doesn't that suck?
I've started using the keyboard shortcuts of alt+left and alt+right on my laptop for forward and back. Those are two mouse buttons that I am 100% lost without. -
What would happen if I installed ALPS drivers? Anyone ever try it? -
cant hurt to try right. oh wait probably can lol. Just try it not im curious if it will work. But im happy with my synaptics driver.
