My new G1 works flawlessly except for one thing - the Touchpad Lock button doesn't seem to work. I reinstalled the touchpad drivers hoping that was the issue but it still doesn't function.

Another note is the "eyeball" light indicating the touchpad being enabled/disabled does not respond when I use the touchpad software to disable the touchpad. I'm sure these 2 issues are related just not sure where to look for solutions.

I also have the exact same problem with my G1. If anyone has a solution, here's one more G1 owner who will be grateful.

There really is no real solution, I emailed them about it and he said reinstall synaptics so i did. It is still a little flaky but much better now.

Can you confirm that Synaptics, HControl and ATK0110 drivers have all been installed(and the latest one?).

HControl and ATK0110 are installed from the G1's driver CD. I have the latest Synaptics software (from Synaptics site) installed. I did try reinstalling, but it didn't change anything.

I noticed that the touchpad enable/disable button lost its functionality after I installed some programs, possibly ZoneAlarm. Is anyone else with this problem using ZoneAlarm?

Can you try installing the Synaptics driver from the Asus site (or from the CD?)

Sometimes the newer Synaptics drivers become updated and then they don't work with ATK0100/Hcontrol... or they will, but Asus has to release an update. The stock drivers, however, should all work with each other.

Initially, I had installed everything from the Asus driver CD after a clean install of XPMCE. However, there was a problem where I could not edit the Synaptics touchpad properties, i.e. if I clicked on the "Settings" button, I would get a Windows error. I did some research and found that I could fix the problem by installing the updated Synaptics drivers from their website. This worked perfectly.

However, note that the touchpad disable button worked initially with the manufacturer's setup. It was after some program installations that it just quit working. I don't know for sure, but I suspect ZoneAlarm could have something to do with it.

You could be onto something fizikz. When mine wasn't working I did have Zonealarm installed. Unfortunately I hadn't tried the disable button before installation so I can't say for sure if that was the culprit. I slicked the disks and reloaded from the DVD and the button worked. I do plan to reinstall Zonealarm sometime soon so will see if it stops working after that.

Same problem on my W7J. It works sometimes and doesn't sometimes.
