Turned on my laptop this morning and noticed my mouse was acting weird on screen, i'm just moving my finger up and down on the touchpad and it keeps clicking. It randomly clicks whenever my finger is on the touchpad.

It doesn't do it all the time, just randomly. I've uninstalled Synaptics driver and installed an older one. Then that didn't do anything so I installed the newest one again. I've restarted my laptop several times and it's just doing the same IDK why but it's really annoying. Especially on Photoshop when I want to edit something and scrolling and it just keeps clicking.

I've cleaned the touchpad and nothing. Even washed my hands incase it was anything to do with my fingers and it still does it. It's really annoying, i've not installed anything new within the past 3 days, just this morning it started going crazy.

Before, I just placed my finger on the touchpad and didn't move it and it just kept clicking really fast. I know you can turn off the touch to tap but I don't like using the click on the laptop or using a mouse. I'd rather have it fixed.

My laptops not under warrenty so can't get it fixed, especially since i'm broke atm.

Anyone know anything I can do?

    Thanks.

Have you tried just turning down the sensitivity? Chances are though if it's doing that with two different drivers you may have a faulty touchpad.

I've restarted several times and changed the sensetivity, yet is still continues to act crazy. Sometime It took my 3 tries to click this thread in my bookmarks as it took me to lot's others.

Arghh! I've ran SpyBot and Avast and it's still found nothing!

    Please help!

Go into safe mode and see if you get the same clicking sounds there. If that doesn't produce the same sounds, then it's most likely some type of third party software you've installed causing the issue.

just tried it in safe mode, it's doing the same. And then after about 3 minutes of it doing that, it stops. And then after several minutes, it starts again!1

In that case, try uninstalling any touchpad drivers and any external mouse drivers. See if the clicking continues then. Your touchpad/mouse should still work without any drivers since Windows will usually automatically install it's own generic/default driver.

I did that before, I uninstalled the Synaptics driver and it still did the same.

Btw, did this happen just this morning? If so, try do a system restore with a restore point from yesterday.

Yeah, I was going to, and for some reason it's saying that I don't have any system restore points apart from today when I uninstalled and installed the Synaptics driver. I clicked on the box 'Show more restore points' and it doesn't show anything else. "/

In that case, I'd recommend doing a complete factory restore and see if that helps. Make sure you back up all your data before performing a factory restore. I was hoping we could avoid this seeing that this can be a tedious process. If even after a factory restore you still hear the clicking, I'd be more likely to reckon it's a hardware issue.

Thanks, I decided to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate, and when I chose my language, it was still doing the annoying click thing there. And choosing random languages my cursor hovered over. So I just cancelled the installation as I doubt it would do anything if it was messing up on the installation window.

It was okay this morning, untill about 15 minutes of me using my laptop, when it decided to start again :(

KINDA fixed this by turning the sensitivity on the touchpad right up so that even the slightest touch will move it. It's okay now.

    Thanks.

Yeah My old Compaq after 4-5 years had a similar problem, it was a joystick but similar problem, randomly clicked and moved around the screen by itself, replaced it and it was ok, if it happens when your in safe mode and during a fresh install, it might be hardware, can you crack he laptop open to check connections and if that doesn't work, possibly replace the touchpad?
