I am so frustrated with my touchpad on the UPDATED zenbook prime. The laptop is deemed unusable as the cursor freezes up on me every time I do a multigesture. This is partially my fault, however.

This is the story: I needed to reformat the laptop and so I had someone else do it for me. What the person did was a complete wipe and fresh installation of Win7 rather than using the AI Recovery discs. I guess that SHOULD be ok, since ASUS provides all the necessary drivers on their website...

I installed SmartGesture and all I get is that icon on the bottom left showing me how many fingers I'm touching on the touchpad. Any attempt in doing a smart-gesture, the cursor will immediately freeze for 4-5 seconds and will work again. After repeating this about another 3 times, it will completely freeze and I'd need to restart the whole laptop.

Please help please help! I can't use the laptop unless I use it with an external mouse. :(
Did I miss a necessary associated driver with the SmartGesture? I admit I didn't install all of them because I wasn't sure what all of them do.
    Help is very appreciated!!!

Go into your Device Manager and see if you have any drivers missing/in question. Often times, you can get the latest drivers (but not the respective utility with them) via Windows Update.

assuming you know how to navigate thru windows with out a a touchpad, or if you have a USB mouse handy, then remove the pointing device from the hardware manager, then do a windows update.

    it's worth a try

I believe Windows Update has been run and that all drivers are up to date... When I go to device manager, I don't see anything missing... (I'm looking for missing drivers by looking for yellow symbols with an exclamation mark, right?)

can I ask what you mean exactly by the pointing device? Would that be the SmartGesture?

A yellow exclamation point could mean a number of things (though it's never a "good" sign when seen in device manager). It may be best to either use the "roll back" option, or uninstall the driver, and allow Windows to reinstall it for you via the Windows Update. The update utility might not see any drivers though while you have your current one installed.

    Pointing device = mouse/trackpad.
